I don't know about that damasking pattern, but I do get the distinct impression that ones with the plain nickel finish, like your example here, are among the most scarce. Even more so than the two-tone ones.

Indeed. Our/my thought is it probably does signify something. Either karat content or perhaps plate thickness/age wear. Like gold-filled 5 year guarantee or 25 year guarantee.

No. As far as I know it has no other markings at all. Definitely not under the lid or bezel. I do have a shot of that.
And, your list is also all I can find for Ladd trademarks. So, I think we can conclude that it is not a Ladd case.
