There are two Seth Thomas pendulum's that Timesavers sells. One has a small hole in the middle of it and that is the one I am using with this clock. The weight of this is 4 oz and part number is 10290. The other is 3.6 oz. part number 10219. Would the difference of .4oz make that much difference...
Dial not changed and there is no place on this movement to regulate it. Must have been with an adjustable pendulum to rate it. No sense of taking any
pictures because it doesn't show anything for rating. Just wanted to know if Seth Thomas made a movement like this at some time.
Thanks for the...
Me neither! Now I have another Seth Thomas Mantle and it is the same size and design as the Steeple movement, same gears, everything BUT it does
have a dial thru at the top where a key can be inserted to rate it. Same movement except for that!
Have a Seth Thomas Steeple Clock and the movement is a Time&Strike 8 day pendulum. Problem is it's running 20 minutes per day fast and there is no way to regulate the time. Everything is original including the pendulum which has no rate nut on the bottom of the bob. Don' t know what could have...
HNY Shutterbug. Been running it for 24 hours and was about 12 minutes slow so started to make adjustments. Don't think the pendulum is original. Don't want to do the trial and error thing for a week so thanks for the number and will take a reading tomorrow morning.
Healthy New Year to All!
Have an Urgos 5X5 square grandmother movement chain driven T,S,C and don't know what the BPH is. The markings on the bottom rear are minimal. It is stamped PL85CM
with the number 1130. That is all.
Anyone know what the BPH is?
Tool Steel does matter! Case in point. Restored a Waterbury 8 day Time and Strike started to wind the Mains when the time side winding arbor started to twist. By the time I finished winding the arbor looked like a spiraled candy cane! I called him and he told me his friend made the mains arbor...
It matters! If it is 0161 which is a soft steel like Hermle's nickel chromium plated steel. If it is a soft steel than it needs to be replaced with a tool steel like 01 which is a very good tool steel for pivots. That is the point of my question. So the question is not impertinent but of the...
And if this was a repivot is there a way to tell what type of steel it is? O1 or 0161?

Tinker, if the chromium plating has worn off exposing the steel will the rust test work and what will that accomplish?
Here is a first for me but you may have seen this before.
The local "clock repairman" whom everyone loves and thinks he is a nice man and who really knows how to repair clocks has such a following in town has been doing this for 30 years in his spare time. He was a full time mail deliveryman...
