    Before timegraphers

Don't know for sure but based on my experience working on a survey crew some 70 odd years ago, they probably used a master clock adjusted periodically to sidereal time. If you know where you are on Earth you can determine the exact time by measuring the angle from your location to the North...

    Vintage Longines Question

I believe that's a front loader. Will take a Longines Admiral Wrench or a crystal lifter to open.

Electric WW Bulova Accutron Quart 2431.10 repair

If you are not comfortable soldering circuits you might try silver conductive glue. I've used for a similar problem.

    Longines 341

I have obtained Longines parts on the big auction site. Bought an outer stem from a seller in Belgium who has lots of Longines parts. I believe the part number for the female half of a split stem is 963. Can't find the sellers name right now but he is very knowledgeable. Search for Longines part...

    Stolen 992E

Found. While retrieving a belt that had fallen behind the dresser I found the watch against the baseboard under the dresser. Apparently flung across the room by burglar as he tossed drawers in chest. Can't figure why the watch's storage bag was still in the drawer.

    Stolen 992E

Got serial number from digital photo. Next to last character doesn't look like any number. Straight left side with long legs top and bottom and short leg on middle. Burglars left papers all over so haven't found written record yet. I'll take another look at blurry when enlarged picture later...

How do you tell if a watch is a fake copy?

If a Fake is not real and a Copy is not real then wouldn't a Fake Copy be real ? :)

    Accutron Band ?

I really didn't compose the original post very well. What I would like to know is if this band was in fact original equipment on some Bulova model and around what vintage. I haven't changed many bands but have never seen one with the little tabs on the end piece. Found a couple of bands with...

    Accutron Band ?

Started to fit this band to a 1977 Bulova quartz case and discovered it wouldn't fit because of the little tabs on the end of the end piece. First thought was to grind off the tabs but then thought this band may have been intended for a particular case. Also wondered if it is a genuine Bulova...

Mechanical WW What size dip oiler to use?

For what it's worth, I dip just the tip of a large oiler into the bottle and deposit the oil onto my thumbnail. Then use a small oiler to pick up from the thumbnail and deposit on the pivot. Read that somewhere. For occasional use that avoids wasting oil in a cup.

    Bulova Hands recommendation

I've acquired a rather nice case with an interesting "Tri Plane" crystal and blue dial with silver hour makers for a 1977 Bulova quartz. I'm assembling a 2423.10 movement for it. So far I haven't found suitable correctly sized hands for the blue dials. All I find at the supply houses with...
