Zodiac 1150A triple date moonphase movement question

Hi everyone, I'm attempting to restore a Zodiac triple date moonphase watch that has a broken balance staff. Just getting started in watch repair and am wondering if the balance assembly from any model 1150A that has a good balance staff would work with my triple date. My thinking is it would...

Is repairing a standard Rolex that much different than other watches?

My longtime watch repairer passed away just after Thanksgiving, someone who has been working on my watches for over 15 years. He had been working on watches for over 50 years, took movements completely apart, even removing the jewels from the plates. His prices were very reasonable for...

Hi Skutt, what is stamped on the movement is 21 165 GXM and 17 jewel. I assume the 21 is what you were referring to?

Mechanical WW Rusted winding arbor on a Girard-Perregaux Gyromatic

thanks for the replies guys. Will have to take this completely apart, something I am not used to, just started working on watches, will have to take lots of pics. Also, where might I find a replacement stem/crown? I tried Casker and Jules Borel and both web sites did not have the stem, at...

Mechanical WW Rusted winding arbor on a Girard-Perregaux Gyromatic

Hi Guys, just picked up a Gyromatic and the winding arbor has rusted in place, just a little bit of stump left where pliers could maybe pull it out. Is there something I could use to soak the arbor to remove it or should I just try for a new movement. The movement was filthy but surprisingly...

Crown for Universal Geneve Space-Compax Chrono

Hi everyone, I just recently picked up a Universal Geneve Space-Compax chronograph that is undergoing restoration now. It needed new rubber pushers, which I was lucky enough to get and according to my watchmaker needs a new crown. I guess it has a small spring or something in it that makes...

    Glass crystal polishing

not sure what the material is, mineral or glass. The watch is a mid 80's quartz chrono. Sounds like the best route will be just replace the crystal. Thanks for all the replies.

Poll: Who is your favorite dial refinisher and why?

I've used Kirk Dial LA and International. Both are ok but not great. One time I got back an Omega Constellation dial with two stars on the dial except the normal one from International but other times they have been ok. There is one in Germany I would like to try and knowing the Germans the...

    Accutron Cleaning

Speaking of Accutrons, I have one that is running fast, about an hour now in almost a weeks time. Personally, I have never heard of this, running that fast. Would that need a cleaning, new coil, etc?

    Dumb watchmaker collets question

this will seem like a dumb question but over the weekend I picked up a box of collets and am not sure what size they are, either 7mm or 8mm. When I measure the threads they are about 7mm and when I measure the portion that is not threaded, the solid part, it is 8mm. What would be the correct way...

Mechanical WW Cleaning Old Dial-Solution Or Suggestion?

I tried using Polident for the first time on a 40's Omega painted two tone metal dial. It did help the appearance, much better than I could have done using cotton swabs, etc. The Omega name and horseshoe were worn quite a bit but I believe the Polident had nothing to do with that as I could see...

    Making a Bezel

Hi Doug. I looked in the Mart but did not see that name. After your response I looked again and found them. They said they can make a bezel at a reasonable price. My watchmaker has the watch now but if makes no headway with his contact I will provide him with the one you gave me. Thanks.

Need a Gruen Dial Refinisher Company-Best Recommended One?

I had a dial for an Omega Constellation done with two stars on it instead of the standard one star by International Dial, figure that one out. I sent it back and they made it right but it should not have come back to me with two stars. I have had good luck with Kirk Dial LA in Los Angeles.
