    help with long-case clock

I asked a cousin, who plays tennis. He says everyone stopped using natural gut 15 to 20 years ago. The stuff they use now is synthetic. I think I will go with the perlon line. The dial foot issue I shall deliberate over if the clock comes in for restoration. Regards Aditya

    help with long-case clock

The patch at 4 o'clock looks like heat damage. The dial foot under that is detached and there is evidence of previous attempts at soldering. regards Aditya

    help with long-case clock

Thanks for the help Novicetimekeeper! I will rule out gut since I am not sure how it will behave in out climate. Of the others, i.e. bronze, galvanised steel, vinyl covered steel and perlon, which would you recommend? The small symbols inside the roman numerals are 1 to 12 in the Devanagari...

    help with long-case clock

Hello, This clock might come to me for restoration. If it does, it will be my first long-case clock. All that's missing is the seconds hand. I also feel the 'cable/cord' on which the weight hangs should be replaced. Could anyone point out the correct cable from the CousinsUK site? That's where I...

    US question

For watch work, I use a variation of David S's method. The tank always has only water. The various solutions are in baby food bottles that go in the water bath. Kind regards Aditya

    Ansonia regulator A missing parts

Thank you for the advice Shahrukh, I found that (on the leader) the bit that the rod hangs on was not aligned with the suspension spring. Adjusting that brought the bob in the correct plane. Kind regards Aditya

    Bushing query please

I use an escapement file made by grobet-vallorbe. I believe it is called a 'rat tailed' file.

    Ansonia regulator A missing parts

Thank you for the help Tinker Dwight & RJSoftware. Thicker springs are not easily available to me, the shipping cost from available sources is prohibitive. Also, all indications are that the pendulum will not ride too high in the case. I realised that the leader and pendulum rod hardware were...

    Ansonia regulator A missing parts

An update on this clock. I found all the missing parts, except the hands, at timesavers. New springs, pivots polished, holes bushed etc. I have been running the clock without the hands for the last twelve hours. With the bob all the way up it is about 3 minutes slow over 12 hours. I don't think...

    Ansonia regulator A missing parts

Thank you for the inputs everyone! I have to decide whether to accept this job based on parts availability. The issue would be the total length and the size/weight of the bob. If Ansonia had different sizes in this style I am sure one of you would have pointed that out. I think I will go ahead...

    Ansonia regulator A missing parts

Hello, This just came in for repairs. It is an Ansonia with "Regulator A' on the glass. It is unusual (for me) since it has a bell and not a coil gong. The pendulum and rod are missing. Also, the suspension spring is broken. I was wondering if the following parts are suitable-...

    Hermle movement

I realise the hammers are too close to each other to accomodate tubular gongs. I wonder if the hammers can be bent away to create more distance between them. Also, I am not sure if the gongs will foul with the pendulum. As I said, this project is just in my mind at the moment. As you suggest, I...

    Hermle movement

This movement is available for about GBP 14 shipped to my aunts address in the UK (she visits us in India 2-3 times a year). But I get all the advice given here. I read the thread on Hermle plated pivots and that has scared me sufficiently :-) I shall keep my eyes open for something of better...

    Hermle movement

Thank you for your opinions, they do really help. I suppose this movement is going cheaply for a reason.I think I will research a bit more before I commit. And thank you for the lead Randy Beckett! Kind regards Aditya
