    WANTED: GK cuckoo movement diagram

Does anyone have a link or info leading to a written or drawn assembly, function and nomenclature diagram of a cast brass GK {or type} cuckoo clock movement? I have several major resources to newer cuckoo movements but nothing I have seen or read goes into any detail about the much earlier brass...

    Pre-cleaning machine!

Thanks for the info! I have some Purple Power and wondered how it would work with clock movements. Not that I am afraid to experiment just didnt want to waste what appeared to be a good cleaner. I am going to try a pre-clean tomorrow on some parts (old cast brass) and see how much of the pivot...

Can anyone tell me the age of my new Cuckoo Clocks?

Some questions I always ask myself: Is the movement original to the case? Has the bird, hands, pendulum, chain, or weights been replaced or interchanged? How to tell if the movement is original? When you remove it if there are more than four screw holes in the wood it might be a replacement...

GK cuckoo hand nuts and bushing

Exactly! Finally ended up drilling and tapping (had to roll my own). BTW, both my early GK thick brass plate movements have M2.5

GK cuckoo hand nuts and bushing

Thanks Bill. I have purchased several assortments and no luck..yet. The movements I have are both very old and possibly an unusual thread.

GK cuckoo hand nuts and bushing

Does anyone know what the size is of an old GK cuckoo movement hand nut or bushing is? Are they metric? Does anyone have an idea who might have a couple for sale? Thanks in advance Bill

    pendulum squeak

My 100 yr old cuckoo just started doing 'The Cuckoo Clock Squeak' in between the tic and the toc. I couldn't hear it but my wife assured me that it was driving her crazy. The only thing that had really changed over the last year was a period pendulum which I picked up. I examined this piece and...

    Cuckoo clock ID

Hi Ted, I have the same one as the lighter one you mention. It has a GK (inside and oval) movement. It also has a date ink stamped of Dec 23 1901 inside the left inspection door. It has the leaf on the cuckoo door and the same design for the carved leaves. Interestingly it has a carved rooster...

I think I found me a REALLY old cuckoo this time!

That is a truly awesome cuckoo. I haven't seen that style of leaf carved into many clocks. The leaf on the door appears to me to be a maple, ivy or grape leaf (and I am not sure if this is an indicator of the original carver or not). I have a 1901 'GK' with that same leaf pattern on the door.

    Money question

I have spent a lot of time on the Big Island and have yet to hear the plaintive call of the cuckoo. Depending on the season, I am into either loud vintage cuckoo clocks or silently spinning 400 day clocks. Let us know how the ''Hawaiian Cuckoo Scheme" works..the more cuckoos there the better.

    Vintage round cuckoo pendulum needed.

I am going to fabricate a round, bullseye type pendulum for a cuckoo clock. I want to incorporate a brass threaded rod with adjustable weight for maximum accuracy. Is there someone who might be able to post some detail pics or even better, some scaled drawings? Thanks in advance.

Regula 34 8 day Cuckoo movt. bellows lift wire problem

Agreed, but sometimes this requires removing the bellows from the case just to properly install the lift wire. Sounds tricky but it is only one screw.

    Restoring the finish

I have restored the finish on about 25 400 day clocks and if I do it by hand I can actually regulate how much patina I leave on the clock. I prefer some areas to keep the darker brass finish that comes with natural aging. The first five or six I polished to a brand new luster and clear-coated...

Cuckoo, musical, Regula 25, bad sequence

If it was pulled off the wall it would explain things. With most clocks I can see a reason why something isn't working properly. I don't really dislike cuckoos, I have three of them ( and would have more if my wife didn't dislike them). Currently this cuckoo has decided not to come out very...

Cuckoo, musical, Regula 25, bad sequence

Thanks David, As it turns out, it was the 'pin wheel', lower left. I watched it go through it's sequence and it was tripping the bellows first then the gong. I loosened the set screw and turned it back a few degrees so it would catch the gong first. This seems to have corrected the problem...

Cuckoo, musical, Regula 25, bad sequence

I had a good friend ask me to look at his Mom's Hunter style Schmeckenbecher low mileage cuckoo clock. It has a music box, back plate gong and Regula 25 one day movement. It has not seen many hours of actual operation. It had both bellows blown out and I figured that would correct the problem...

400-day excape wheel seems to lock

The only time I have seen a 'working' 400 day clock with an EW that locks is when it is out of beat. Being out of beat does not just happen by itself. Make sure the top horizontal screw is tight (after you put the clock back in beat and it is running again). If a clock runs for a year it will...

    Stress cracks on base

Occasionally I have acquired 400 day clocks with stress cracks on the brass bases. Is there an accepted method to repair these or do people just have to live with them?

Post your quartz clock matters here

Re: The best quartz (fake) torsion pendulum drive that I have seen. I inadvertantly ended up being the owner of an all plastic 400 day look alike. It was a sight unseen purchase with no return rights. It had no glass or brass parts. Full size gold plastic movement, pendulum, base and plastic...

The best quartz (fake) torsion pendulum drive that I have seen.

I inadvertantly ended up being the owner of an all plastic 400 day look alike. It was a sight unseen purchase with no return rights. It had no glass or brass parts. Full size gold plastic movement, pendulum, base and plastic dome. I keep it displayed in my mud room to remind me of the 'stuff'...
