Waltham 17 Jwl Navy Comparing Watch

Bump.... I recently acquired serial 31300493. I have been digging into the sheets about these and have yet to see one without a 313xxxxx serial. There is a variation in the 1617 for these watches beyond the hacking. Note that it is not jeweled at the center but rather they capped the...

Origins of the Elgin 997 Transit?

It seems that the one run of 1000 was identified before the other two. That would explain why there is one run on the one site and 2 on the other. You would think that Jeff's site would have the 2 runs listed if it was using Wayne's data as a basis. Wayne's site has not been updated for some...

Origins of the Elgin 997 Transit?

This is why I am trying to contact individuals involved in this. I am trying to find if there is a source for the use of a 997 grade. [ELGIN] Elgin Grade Number Data [ELGIN] Private Label Watches

Origins of the Elgin 997 Transit?

Exactly. But there has been the practice of calling them a 997. I am trying to find out why.

Origins of the Elgin 997 Transit?

Unsure if there is even a notation anywhere in the Elgin documentation that there ever was a grade 997. This may have been a grade assigned by John.

Origins of the Elgin 997 Transit?

I recently picked up a Elgin Transit 345/997. It has become a discussion as to where the 997 designation came from. Is this a designation? I have one individual saying that 997 was never used by the factory. I have dug around on Wayne's site and emailed John Fogarty. Tom, you are mentioned...

Gold Watches -- The New Endangered Species

I saw a recent listing for a 12s Howard 21j movement, box, papers, and even a Howard bag.....no case. Listing said was running when I took it out of the case. So I messaged him....does not have the case...it was scrap. Well I hope he enjoys the $150 he gets for a movement and extras. Another...

    1914 Elgin grade 997 Transit 12 size adjusted 4p

Just picked up one of these in a 14k case. Serial seems to be later than most I have seen.

    Hampden Chester Woolworth Adjusted

The watch arrived today. It will need a bit of work as it appears that someone used superglue to attach the seconds sub section. But it is running well. Screws will need to be replaced as there are incorrect ones. Anyway.....

    Hampden Chester Woolworth Adjusted

Never stop listening and talking. That is how we all share and learn. The shape of the barrel bridge is always the same between the two. It is the design of the click where you wind it that vary. Look at a NY and you will see the polished steel click to one side and just a small hole on...

    Jacob Morch Brooklyn ED

After a long way around it arrived. Got some better pictures. It is a Swiss copy. Can't call it a fake as they made no attempt to spoof any names. It is a PL so I would have to think the jeweler knew he was selling a copy of a Waltham 57. I did have the dial off. It is...

    Post your American made Chronographs

I started on the Manhattan/NYCWCo collecting only about 3 or so years ago when I bought a few Manhattan from Bila including the NYCWCo pictured. After that I kept hunting more of them. Sounds like you have an awesome group of them even as a side collection. I am sure we would be interested in...

    Post your American made Chronographs

Hi Mark. Bila, Pat H, and I have been working on serials and info for Manhattan watches. There is no structure for runs and such for this company as of yet. I am also of the mind that the model identification may need updating. There are multiple types. Time only no seconds, time with...

    Hampden Chester Woolworth Adjusted

Consensus is that it was finished by Hampden from NY parts. Not Hampden fabricated NY type parts. The balance cock is of NY style not Hampden in engraving. I figured Hampden was finishing them off and adjusted this one without deviation from the typical Woolworth. Like I said any NYWCo with...

    Hampden Chester Woolworth Adjusted

NYWCo didn't make watches with patent regulators. If there are any they are very few and far between. I know the usual....all depends on which railroad because at the time many would not accept ones others would. I try and figure that pre 1885 if it is 15j+ and adjusted it could be RR grade...

Absolutely Rick. I will add it once it arrives and I can get my pics of it.

    Hampden Chester Woolworth Adjusted

This one is on the way but it raised a question. It is a Chester Woolworth but based on the balance cock and the click it is a NY movement. But the dial is Hampden and the case is Dueber. The case and dial appear to be original and this could be a Hampden finished NY. The serial is within...

I note that in Ron Price's book there is an ATCo fake pictures. The balance and placement of thg he screw for the balance cock is the same.

The sporting models were a type of chronograph. I think there is a picture in Ron's book of one. I would find it interesting if a reputable jeweler used a Swiss copy of a m57. Usually they are marked for non existent companies or spoofs of the real names of models.
