Thanks for the tip on the winding stem. I've never heard of this feature before. Do any other models have this feature? jjw

Request for Rockford Serial Numbers from 1-255,000 ( now expanded to 500,001)

I guess I cannot eliminate the second possibility of my watch having 11 jewels without taking the watch apart. I prefer not to do that. I wish I would have asked the watchmaker when it was serviced. 9 or 11 is the best I can do.

Request for Rockford Serial Numbers from 1-255,000 ( now expanded to 500,001)

No, I have not had the dial off, but in the Rockford catalog, the 11-jewel movement is shown as having one more jewel on the top plate, and mine doesn't have it. Also, the top plate jewels are shown with screws, and mine doesn't have those, either. This is the best evidence I have.

    American Watch Advertising

I realize this is an old thread, but here is my Rockford post card. This is one of a set of 13 monthly cards produced by the company between 1909 and 1910. I wish I could find the full story, but the Rockford historical site which produced it is down now. Mine is an original card from 1909...

    South Bend, Superb Condition

The case is a Wadsworth 20 year model. This seems to agree with the production data on the South Bend site. I think South Bends were often sold with the case, by mail order. Thanks to all.

    South Bend, Superb Condition

I almost wanted to question if it was real, but then who would fake such an inexpensive watch?

    South Bend, Superb Condition

I recently bought a South Bend Grade 209 (1920). I know this watch is not of much interest to collectors, but I liked the look of it. Upon receiving it I noticed it is in remarkable condition; it almost looks uncirculated. I was told it came from a jeweler's estate sale. Maybe it was lost in...

    modern-day salesman's cases

Yes, I bought a 992B in the salesman case from this feller. I didn't completely know what I was getting. I wouldn't mind if these cases were sold as is for what usefulness they have, but to see vintage watches for sale in these cases....and then seeing vintage cases for sale by the same...

    Rockford 18s

The factory, by the way, still stands in Rockford. It was owned by the city, but I hear recently bought by a developer.

    Rockford 18s

Very nice watches. I also am partial to Rockford because it is my home town. I have a Model 1, the absolute cheapest grade they ever made, but I don't care; it's my favorite.

Request for Rockford Serial Numbers from 1-255,000 ( now expanded to 500,001)

Re: Levi Rhoades: he was presented with Ser #1. I believe someone owns that one. It would be nice if the owner reported that one to your database.

    Waltham Setting Direction

If I had a watch that wound in the opposite direction, I’d be totally confused.

Thank you all. Because my collection is small, I could have been led to a wrong conclusion without your answers.

    How 'undesireable' is this 992B?

Congrats on your buy. I really like my 1948 992B. I am amazed by its accuracy. Mine is keeping time within 5 sec for two weeks now. I confess that I also bought mine for what I thought was a bargain. But it was re-cased in a so-called "salesman case", which was a cheesy foreign-made...
