    What a Deal? Kuempel Movement

It has 5 tubular bells and strikes every quarter hour although all of the hammers don't make contact. Yes the other two gear trains seem to be working. I just can't seem to keep it running and was wondering if it's more sensitive to leveling than other clocks, especially front to back?

    What a Deal? Kuempel Movement

This is kinda what I thought and feared. But hey, I've only got $50 into it. She did say it was serviced a number of years ago and that clock shop's name and # are in the cabinet so if they're still in business, I may be in luck. Thanks Bruce.

    What a Deal? Kuempel Movement

I snagged this one off of CL this morning for $50. It's hand made by a cabinet maker some 60 years ago for his grand-daughter. She is now deciding to sell it because "...it doesn't go with her decor." Ok, whatever. It has a Kuempel movement in it and I have been adjusting the crutch for several...

Where do I start? (Hermle 340-020A)

Yes, every 1/4 hour. I cleaned the balance as described in the other thread using lighter fluid and it is running much better now. Dad has 2 mantle clocks and the other one has the same problem so I'm taking this one back to him and I'll do this exercise all over again tomorrow. o_O Here are...

Where do I start? (Hermle 340-020A)

I'm not sure I know what a carriage clock is actually. This is a mantle clock made by Emperor Clock Co. It does have bim bam hammers and rods as you call them though. It sounds like crap. I've tried to adjust the movement up a little so the hammers aren't so close to the rods and this helped a...

Where do I start? (Hermle 340-020A)

I deleted them. After I posted this thread, I realized it was basically a repeat of another thread that was already underway with the same movement. You in fact are a part of that discussion and already helped me in my issues with my dad's mantle clock. Thanks

    Hamilton Mantle Clock running slow

I was going to look at my dad's slow running mantle clock today when I found this thread. As a former smoker, I know that lighter fluid is naptha ie: Ronsonol, Zippo, just to name a couple of brands. I assume it's pure enough for the cleaning purposes discussed above.

    Extremely Fine Thread Damage

Once I knew the pitch, I would use a thread file and dress the threads back down. Knowing most people don't have a thread file, you can take a small triangle file and run this through the flattened portions of the threads to dress them back out. It will take some time and a little finesse but...
