    Kuempel Grandfather clock chime tubes

Good day. I have a customer who has a Kuempel Grandfather clock that his father built. During a recent move the weights, pendulum, all 5 tubes and leader were lost somehow. I was fortunate enough to find the weights and pendulum on ebay but no luck finding the tubes and leader. I was wondering...

    Black Forest Tall Case

Jim. Thanks for the info. Yes I believe the case is a Pa case. I knew the old gentleman who I bought it from his estate and feel it meant a great deal to him. He told his sons to make sure it got a good home. He collected a lot of local antiques. He was my ex wife's uncle. Those two clocks are...

    Black Forest Tall Case

I was thinking of making a mask for it but the one problem is to make it look right I would have to move the movement about 1 1/2 in further to the front but that would also bring the weights further front also. Right now the way it is the weights are very close to the lower door. I think I will...

    Black Forest Tall Case

Yes I see now. Thank you for that. So my movement started life as a wag on wall then found a new home in a repurposed case. I guess not an uncommon thing. Just wish it fit better in the case. Either way I think its a cool working piece. Again, I love learning about these things.

Andy, yes there is a hole there and one at each corner like it might have had 5 total. Just an assumption.

    Black Forest Tall Case

P.Hageman. Thank you for the info on the face and movement. I'm glad it's an oldie. Like me. I'm not quite sure what you mean by hinges for the movement so I have pictures of all six sides of it. I just LOVE learning all I can about these antique tall cases and movements no matter their...

    Black Forest Tall Case

Uhralt, Thank you for the info. I will certainly check that out. I guess what concerns me the most about the movement not sitting correctly is that it sits so far back, maybe at least 2 inches or more from the door. I guess I'm so use to modern clocks sitting so close to the door. Thanks again

    Black Forest Tall Case

Hello All. I just purchased this beautiful Tall Case and would like to pick the brains of the experts on what exactly I'm dealing with. Based on my research, the movement appears to be of Black forest in origin and is in very good condition. The face is wood and hand painted. There is some very...

Please Help with maker identification and age

Thank you Uhralt. I looked at the link and it looks somewhat similar in design. I googled the distance from Thames and Reading and it is around 20 miles so it could be conceivable that he changed residence from Thames to Reading but who knows. Yes I noticed the bent crutch and figured I would...

Please Help with maker identification and age

Hello all. I just purchased an antique tall case clock at a local auction. The auction house had it advertised as the maker being Rich Stone of Thames. However in the face it is engraved Reading. Not sure if it is Reading Pa or Reading in England which I believe is near Thames. They also said it...

    Tall case identity

Thanks guys for the input. Timekeeper, I will try the light theory and see what I can come up with. JM, with your opinion of the age being like timekeepers I'm feeling confident about the age. My next step if I can find a name would be it's place of origin.

    Tall case identity

Hey folks. I just purchased this old tall case today. I have always wanted one but could bring myself to pay the price. I paid $350.00 for this one in working order. My questions to all of you is since there is no makers name anywhere that i can see, any idea of who would have made it and or the...

    My new Eli Terry treasure

Thanks guys. even though I am FAR from being an expert on this type of clock, or any clock for that matter, I thought also that having the second hand on a wood movement was kinda unique, not to mention the condition it is in. If the tablet and columns are original I would venture to say that...

    My new Eli Terry treasure

Hi all. I just wanted to share my Eli Terry what I believe is referred to as a double decker column and splat. I fell for wood work movements while I was working on a customers Eli Terry. Got the bug and found this one for $130.00. I haven't fired it up yet, no time but thought I would pick the...
