A faceless wooden wheel clock from central Europe

Jim, Thanks for the new photos. The more I see from your clock, more alien it results to me! About the iron teeth, I supposed that they were together forming a ring, but now it seems to me that they are individually set into the wooden gears. Is it so? A killer clock, Ralph! How much we all miss...

A faceless wooden wheel clock from central Europe

Hi Jim, Many thanks for PMing me on your very interesting movement! Unfortunately, I'm afraid that I share with you my (by far) main source on German area Holzräderuhren, Schaaf's book:cuckoo: That said, I'll just dare to say that the dovetailed construction of the backboard, plus no traces of...

    Printer for Silas Hoadley

Mike, other members with more knowledge will tell you more details on your very interesting clock. For the moment, the drills on the hour cannon are original features. Your movement is a short drop one, designed to fit a shorter case (I'm not saying it isn't original to your case) and on those...

    Barnes and Bartholomew label

Somewhat ugly but in fine condition. I would keep it without any doubt. Aitor

    Barnes and Bartholomew label

Abe, I would NEVER replace an original label, specially if it is still legible, but it is up to you. Posting a pic would help raising opinions.:) Aitor

Help with PHS shelf cuckoo clock!

Well, now that the clock is ticking and cuckooing, I've begun to feel the urge to have this project (at last) finished:eek: As it seems I'll (probably) never find a clear pic of the desired lower fence:glasses:, I've made up my mind and designed a 'version' of it out of the meagre information...

Many thanks, Tommy. I wish you a happy Thanksgiving day, too!:) Aitor

First Pillar and Scroll Seth Thomas

Sorry, Tommy: 'Two piece construction' means 'cast in two halves' and soldered together (i.e. having a vertical seam). Your finials are of the correct Seth Thomas design, but they are modern reproductions, made of two or three parts turned on the lathe and then screwed on a threaded iron shank...

    尺時計 Shaku Dokei

I've been lately distracted designing the missing lower fence for my Haas shelf cuckoo and could barely expect so much activity on this thread after nearly four years  Moreover, folks, many thanks, but you're overwhelmingly opthimistic about my capabilities... I don't have the...

Hey, I had posted thrice, twice accidentally, and the only real one seems to have disappeared... Nevermind, it said: 'Good hunt, Tommy!' :) Aitor

Comtoise clock with phases of the Moon

Not at all, Tom: Grey is intended to depict the FULL moon:eek:! Absurd as it seems (and IS), those are the colours originally intended: orange for background and grey for the moon...:screwball: Of course, I'd have rather preferred a more 'classical' approach to the subject, like that on my...

Comtoise clock with phases of the Moon

Thanks Tom and Uhralt. That very same thing thought I when I examined the moon disc.o_O Notwithstanding I found later a similar clock, with a similar dial (different landscape but the same dial layout), this one displaying moon and calendar: The same lousy colours: A translucid orange...

Comtoise clock with phases of the Moon

The last Comtoise/Morbier clock I purchased was one displaying the phases of the Moon. I had always looked for one at reasonable price and I found this one. It came along with its pressed brass pendulum, wich was a kind of bonus. Polichromy was more or less preserved, too. Maybe some day I'll...

Help with PHS shelf cuckoo clock!

Many thanks, Jimmy. The carvings are superb, but I prefer less exhuberant cases (just a matter of tastes:rolleyes:) Really nice bird and movement! The double bird door looks too plain. Is it a date what is painted on it? I wonder if we all (me included, of course) aren't biasing the picture by...
