Hi all, just purchased and resorted this lovely mahogany bracket clock for an absolute steal, around $300 usd, bargin. Just would like to know if theres any more information about this clock someone could enlight me with. Definitely a later fusee movement design, plaque says "gifted in 1920"...
Thanks for that, would love to get a copy of that book sometime, this movement has many little distinct features I havent seen on other 19th century fusees, could narrow it down for sure with that book in hand. Cheers
Hi all, just resurfaced the pallet on this Fusee movement, just wanting opinions on how well you think this escapement operates? might be tricky but the video i've taken is the the best I can do. Some escape wheel teeth had to be straightened, so the beat changes an ever so minuscule amount...
Did manage to find this article with reference to a William Staples and one of his pieces. The few pocket watches you can find online seem to be of high end quality with many complications.

Cant seem to find anything else either after digging...
Thanks for all your feedback, if I could have it my way, ild travel back to the 18th century and raid a watchmakers workshop hahaha. Would be an absolute dream to work with traditional tools and methods. Surprisingly, I've been able to make new plates for a little travel clock with just calipers...
Hi all, I am looking to spend around $4500 USD to purchase another lathe, as the one I have now is incomplete/not worth hunting for parts. Have the intention of following George Daniels "Watchmaking" to finally attempt at building my own movement. I assume the bulk of parts can be made on a...
Might be a pointless post, but here's three of my Rotherhams with subsidiary marks. All of these are hunter cased full plate English levers. There's ALOT of these later Rotherhams here in New Zealand, to the point where you can buy in bulk.
London 1883, C.H casemaker, "11" Mark...
Had this problem recently, ended up making a punch the exact diameter of the center wheel pinion and a little jig to keep force off the delicate things, then gave it a good few wacks, was extremely tight, ended up putting the entire jig in the vice to clamp down and push it out more smoothly...
Thanks appreciate it, the significant wear on the box plus the haphazardly riveted winding hole shutter must mean the case was lost to history long ago, must be time to go ebay hunting again hahaha, cheers.
Cheers thanks, and thanks for the redirect, was having trouble seeing if the casemaker mark was JR or IR, seems like its IR then, will probably have to make my own outer case on that note.

Hi all, have this nice Wm Robinson verge hallmarked 1811, just having trouble tracking down the casemaker and ultimately the outer case style that would have been used. Seen a few threads on here, but nothing quite adequate. Also curious about the style of hands that would have been used, as the...
Thanks for your insight, the difference in movement and dial plate size is quite telling in my opinion. There is mention of a William Staples in the Antiquarian Horology Journals, but I do not have access to those. Case has a maker mark "JW" plain, no punctuation/embellishment and upper case...
