Have you encountered a Torsion Pendulum clock with gravity escapement? This is my version made in Meccano. It keeps very good time but runs for only 16 hours, due to the limitations with using Meccano.
My Flying Pendulum Clock is made of Meccano, which is less then ideal for a working replica. It does work OK and keeps fairly good time for about 24 hours.
Hi Doug, thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my call for help. The movement (more correctly, remains of) was dismantled when I received it so I thought it would be more helpful left that way. The picture shows all of the parts I have and there are no markings on any of the parts.
Kind...
A friend has asked me to get this clock going again, without taking the easy route of fitting a quartz movement. It would appear to be c1960s German origin and measures 31x 12 x 5 1/2 inches. The case is marble and the deer figures bronze maybe? Case and figures are in excellent condition but...
Thanks very much indeed for your reply, which is most reassuring - I had a niggly feeling that it could be from China! I'll certainly reconsider replacing everything around the dial and reuse the original mirror strips which are indeed very thin glass. I was also puzzled as to why the column...
This clock is a much appreciated gift and to me, appears to be quite a rarity. Any old cuckoo clock with wooden movement plates I think is highly collectable - this one gains even more points from being spring wound, not weight driven.
The garish dial surround is hard on the eyes, but maybe it...
Thanks Jonathan for your very helpful details and links. Yes, Petersons are a very well regarded Christchurch company who are still in business. Sadly however, they had to relocate after our recent spate of serious earthquakes.

I bought this kitset at auction recently and would like to acquire a suitable case for it. Problem is that I would be guessing at the age and therefore style of case I should be looking for. Fortunately I secured two box lots in the auction and found when I unpacked it that the second box...
Thanks one and all for the most helpful and encouraging replies. It's a real relief to have confirmation that the clock is genuine and authentic. I have also just browsed the case restoration section which revealed many useful pointers.
I'm really enthused now to fully restore this one early...
A few weeks ago I bought this sad old thing at a local auction and would like to know more about it and some advice on restoration.
The case measures 380mm across the flats and the chapter ring is 220mm diameter. The dial is labelled "Beringer Bros Belfast" - would they have been the retailer...
I bought at auction last week a "Waterbury Chime No.501" wooden case into which some enthusiast had attempted to install this fusee movement. I'm not at all familiar with fusee movements but this one does seem to be rather unusual. It has a subsidiary dial, behind which is an an assembly with...
A friend has asked me to service and tidy up this large wall clock that he has recently acquired. I have found a very similar one in an antiques encyclopedia and they call it a "Mural" clock, made in the 1880s and 1890s.
This one has a New Haven time and strike movement of a type that I have...
Thanks Mike for your input, which set me wondering whether I had misjudged its size. Here is a quick comparison with some other loose 3 train movements that came to hand:
Maker Weight (lb) Plates (mm) Between Plates (mm) Plate Thickness (mm)
Unknown 4.5 149 x 133 38...
Thanks for your quick reply.
I am reasonably sure it is not from any of the Smiths/Enfield stable as I am familiar with them and this one is very much larger and heavier. It is more similar to an Elliott that I have, but again the movement is much larger. It also has a hand-made look to it...
This would be the largest chime movement that I have encountered and I would like to know at the very least who made it and approximately when.
The plates measure 5 7/8" x 5 1/4" and are about 3/32" thick. Distance between plates is 1 1/2". There is a chime-silent lever above XII and West/Whit...
Sorry about the delay, but I've just had a chance to count the beats - yes, it is indeed 104.
I don't have one of those analyser thingies so counted manually for 5 minutes.
Hugh
Thanks guys for such quick, helpful and interesting replies - once again I can rely on the NAWCC forum to provide all the answers I wanted!
Jonathan, my photos of the movement were taken with it sitting on a sheet of paper on the bench, so you may have been misled as to the method of mounting...
I bought this charming old chimer at local auction a few days ago and have not been able to find any identifying marks or features on it. It seems to be quite well made, is in great condition and goes well. It has 5 chime/strike bars with 4 coupled hammers for strike and 4 hammer westminster...
