We need to get you a new mailbox Clint! I too love the '72. I think I have close to a dozen of them now but only one is cased, hence the problem that's been discussed at length here. I in fact own the 75th unit ever made.( If I'm reading the ledgers correctly) S/N 600075. A scarce button set...

Checked my mailbox today and I got another Waltham '92! I almost passed on this one because there's really nothing special about it. Until I noticed the word "PREMIER" over the ratchet wheel. I am not astute enough to know why a 17j AT&Co has the word Premier on the lowest jeweled '92 that...

Rare experimental free-sprung Waltham Model 1859 prototype movement

All of this is truly fascinating! Thanks for sharing. Why did it cause such concern with management? Is it because Howard may have held the pending patents? Clint, do you believe if that this were true, then Waltham suspended production because they didn't want to waste/lose money in a legal...

    watch cleaning

I used to use lighter fluid to clean dirty watches, This was when I first started out and yes it does work, but it's a cheap, shortcut way to do the job correctly as Rob alluded to. I now have a Watchmaster Ultrasonic cleaner with the correct chemicals to clean and rinse my movements. This is...

Waltham pocket watch J Conning Mobile

So you have an 1894 model size 12s Riverside. It was made in approximately 1902 and total production of this model was just over 83,000. As shown on the movement it has 19 jewels and is in very good shape. This is a wonderful heirloom! Congratulations! BTW, I got the above information from...

Waltham pocket watch J Conning Mobile

Redbovine, add my welcome to the Forum! This stamp is what tells us that the case is made from 18k gold. Nicely engraved as well. If you look closely between 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock on the edge of the bezel,( this is what holds the glass crystal), there is a lever you can pull out. When you...

I have to agree with Ethan here. When I stated times had changed I was lamenting that the days of gold watches were over, but to say that I haven't received gifts from my employer for my service isn't true. I work for a large Defense Contractor and every 5 years we're given a catalog from which...

    UV Adhesive Won't Cure?

Hmm... I'm surprised this works for you. Most windows filter UV light. I put mine in direct sunlight, here in Colorado we get 300 days of sunshine annually so I'm pretty fortunate most days. It's cured clear and strong within 15-20 minutes. I've always been very happy with the results.

Post some of your Coin silver pocket watch cases

I posted this recently in the ..."new addition" thread but since it is coin silver...I really like this watch.

How about posting your glass back salesman/display cases with movement.

Here's my collection. The first two are signed; a Waltham housing my 16s 23j Riv Max, the other is a Hamilton, hard to see the name on the bezel, but it's there, with my only 992. The next 2 pics are of my '92 Crescent St. conversion dial. Then comes my '83...wanna trade Rick? Finally another...

How about posting your glass back salesman/display cases with movement.

Boy Howdy, I'll say! That is incredibly stunning Rick! You know I loves them Waltham's...WOW! To borrow a line from Clint; the only thing wrong with that watch, is it isn't mine.;)

    Show us your locomotive cases

Fresh out of the mailbox...Pretty weak compared to everything above. Still, hand done. Now, what to put in it...?

    A Waltham dial quandary

Jerry, I have several '88's and one thing I've noticed is that the dial diameters vary quite a bit based on the year of manufacture or perhaps grade? Or is this what you mean by "true 16-size"? --K

    Waltham 18k hallmark

My friend and I were just discussing this on Friday at work as he brought in his book to show me this exact issue. It shows that when Waltham is encapsulated with what I call a "shield" it denotes solid gold. It does not indicate karat. If it does, it will do so with either 14K or 18K again...

Post some of your Coin silver pocket watch cases

This coin silver case houses my sweet '72. I really like this watch. Does anyone recognize the makers mark? I did a quick search and came up empty. Both front and back covers have it.
