    Collet Question

Interesting information about how to make/modify these adapters to do the job I need, but truthfully, even though I want to learn, it seems that Sherline's price ($23.25) for one of these adapters is very reasonable. But again thanks for all your help.

    Collet Question

Thanks for the response. This sounds like an easy solution...but, I have both a Sherline Mill and Lathe. I am still a learner with both. As a learning project, do you think it would be very difficult for me to try to make the needed adapter and what type of material would be best to use to do...

    Collet Question

I own a newer Sherline lathe and purchased a Sherline Collet set with sizes from 1/16”-5/16” which includes the draw bar and WW collet adapter to use with it. At my Club’s Mart I recently purchase five additional collets that I thought would fit my Sherline lathe, they do not. The diameter of...

    Strike Hammer Set Up Problem

Thanks to all for your help…I think I have solved my problem, although I am not sure if it is the correct way. First, I could not see a cam on the minute hand, but that might be because I didn’t really know what I was looking for. Anyway, what I did was while the hammer arbor was out of the...

    Strike Hammer Set Up Problem

Kinsler: Sorry about my poor explanation. I am a semi-newbie…I hope you all don’t mind me trying one more time. First, the picture I posted here is the hammer assembly I have. For the purposes of this picture I placed the hammer through the hole in the arbor but not affixed to the arbor. Some...

    Strike Hammer Set Up Problem

My problem is going to be a hard one for me to explain, so I apologize in advance. I am working on an Ansonia Iron Clock. With instructions and encouragement found on this forum, I was able to successfully replace a broken tooth on the count wheel (thanks, my first tooth). But now, my problem...

Broken Tooth on a Count Wheel

Thanks to everyone! This is great help. Since I have a number of old movements in my "junk-yard" I am going to take a small piece of brass from one of them and use that as the plug. I want to use this problem as an opportunity to learn something new about clock-repair so I am going to practice...

Broken Tooth on a Count Wheel

I have round pieces of brass, but no flat strips. Any suggestion on where I can purchase brass strips as small as I would need for this repair? Thanks

Broken Tooth on a Count Wheel

Hi all, Semi-newbie here…I’m working on an Ansonia (Iron case) clock. I cleaned the movement, bushed, and polished the pivots. During inspection I discovered that the count wheel was missing a tooth at one of the half-hour strike positions. When I noticed this, I searched this forum and read...

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

Thanks all...I think I am going to make a new pin for the anchor that , one fits better and two is better positioned relative to the EW. I will also check for the trueness of the EW arbor as suggested. Thanks for the help...I always tell myself that it is challenges like this that help me learn...

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

I think I am confused about the correct position of the pin because this anchor does not sit directly above the escape wheel as I am used to seeing on Brocots with an outside escape wheel, rather it tilts down on the left side of the escape wheel. The pin which is on the lower part of the EW is...

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

I see! A picture is worth a thousand words...thanks for the link. I am going to change the position of my pin as suggested by you and Uhralt.

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

I did reshape the pin to a half round as in a Brocot, but I set the pin so the teeth are landing on the flat side, not the round side. The p[in is very easy to move right now so I can reposition it and see what happens.

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

When I re-examined the escape wheel this morning it seemed to have a few teeth that need more reshaping. I made a YouTube video as was asked, but the clock only ran for 21 seconds. I do believe this is a Brocot with steel pins. One was broken so I replaced it and the other is solder into place...

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

The pins on the anchor are fine. The swing is very small as you mentioned but the clock will only run for about one minute or less. I don't know if this is right or not but I think it needs more drop because if I hold the anchor a certain way the teeth can almost bypass the pins on both exit and...

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

Thanks RC...once I get it out what would you recommend? Would you put it back in with hopes that the penetrating oil made it movable or should I try to make a new one or something else? Thanks

Adjusting Drop on a French Clock

I have been working on a French Vincenti & Cie Crystal Regulator. It is/was in pretty bad shape. I ran it through the UC and lightly burnished the pivots. I still need to make a new hammer arm and the brass piece that holds the coil gong. I will get to those things later (hopefully), but my...

Brass Coil Gong holder for Crystal Regulator missing

Thanks for the help...Maybe I'm not looking in the right departments, but none of the Hardware stores in my area seem to sell small pieces of brass. I think I am going to take your suggestions and try a hobby store and/or ebay. Also, many thanks for the warning about afixing the coil tightly, I...

Brass Coil Gong holder for Crystal Regulator missing

I recently bought a Crystal Regulator that is pretty beat up, but it seems like all the parts are there, except the small brass piece that holds the coil gong. I do have the gong and the hammer. The picture I included is of the part I need from another regulator I recently fixed. I would like to...
