Seth Thomas 89 movement question regarding pendulum locking clip

Yup - I didn't realize how getting it on or off the clip could knock it so out of beat. I have used these before with no issue but you have to be gentle. I suppose she pulled too far when she took it off the clip the first time. With the covid stuff - she is a nurse - she didn't want to come...

Seth Thomas 89 movement question regarding pendulum locking clip

It swings about 1 1/2 inches total side to side measurement. But that is a bit short of being able to hook it - I suspect she pushed a bit too far

Seth Thomas 89 movement question regarding pendulum locking clip

That is what I do - I will have to convince the owner to do the same I guess. She brought it back hooked in the clip and all out of beat :( I was just wondering if perhaps using the clip should not mess up the beat and something else is wrong?

Seth Thomas 89 movement question regarding pendulum locking clip

I asked about this same movement under the General clock discussion area - a moderator can combine if appropriate. This question regards the pendulum locking clip for moving the clock. This is a small Seth Thomas beehive style clock only 11 inches tall. In that cramped space the pendulum bob...

Modified German time only weight driven giving me fits -

Here are a couple closeups of the pinion. As currently setup the teeth from the hour go all the way into the leaves and contact the bottom of the valley - so I think I need to move that bushing just a bit. The two mesh right at the top of the pinion but the teeth do not slip in between the...

Modified German time only weight driven giving me fits -

I am pretty sure that is the issue - I appreciate all the suggestions and will be going back through each bit again. But the pinion is top of the list.

Modified German time only weight driven giving me fits -

That must be the photo - It lies flat on an anvil and turns without wobble in the lathe. There is quite a lot of play in hour wheel and pipe though. It does not fit tight to the minute, so perhaps it does wiggle around a bit and get out of alignment - I will check that again. thanks

Modified German time only weight driven giving me fits -

Thanks - all of the above has been dealt with - and when the teeth do not mesh properly they will not turn even with direct finger pressure so I am pretty sure it is not a power problem. With the hour pipe / wheel removed and the minute attached it works fine and keeps time properly. But when...

Black Forest Cuckoo hands stop at 1:59am every morning with the door closed -- pendulum still swings

If you leave the door unlatched all night does it perform as designed and everything is correct in the morning?

Modified German time only weight driven giving me fits -

Some clocks are hardly worth working on, but I accepted this one and it is giving me fits. It is an unmarked time only single weight movement in what looks like an older German case. The dial is porcelain and in fair shape. The case is missing finials and has the wrong top piece. All the...

    Tightening up hunters horn

I usually rough up the peg and the inside of the socket. A sharp pin or awl will bring some fibers out a bit and it will stay in better. If the roughing up does not hold it, then a touch of Hyde Glue keeps it there and will release with heat.

    Hubert Herr. Door sticking open

Read carefully - only two nuts - a large one behind the hand - it is a large diameter but thin nut, then the hand, then (if you want) a washer, then the nut on the small threads. There should be enough room for that setup if you have the proper nuts. The front of the hand should be right at -...

    Hubert Herr. Door sticking open

I usually see just two - one in the back which is larger and has larger threads for the square part of the shaft - then the hand - then one in the front which goes on the small threads. Often there is a washer between the hand and the front nut. You adjust the back nut so that the hand is...

    Hubert Herr. Door sticking open

Does the minute hand have a square hole? If so you need two round nuts - one goes on behind the hand and the other goes on in front. The two nuts are adjusted and tightened to hold the minute hand in the square area but not interfering with the hour. Make sure the nut in back does not touch...

    Hubert Herr. Door sticking open

Sounds like the post and all fittings need a good polish, perhaps a bit of straightening, and no oil ??

    Hubert Herr. Door sticking open

On these I find - and tell my customers - you cannot set the time by turning the minute hand from its tip. You have to hold the nut to set the time. If the minute hand has a round hole, the nut with the square goes on first, the minute hand goes on the flange on the nut, then a washer goes on...

    Hubert Herr. Door sticking open

This works very well for me. On the back side are wing nuts that tighten the cross bar that adjusts the width. The holder arms are long enough to work with large cuckoos. The swivel at the apex allows getting the house perpendicular so that you can set the beat before putting it on the wall...

Front mount Cuckoo Clock - very easy to work on

This is the first time I have seen this. You have to take the case apart to get the movement out. The Regula 25 is mounted to blocks with the mounting screws behind the front board and not accessible unless you take case apart. The good part of this design is that you can easily put the case...

I have bent them by hand, but I don't see how they do many - it rather hurts the thumbs :)
