Bulova are one of my favorite wrist watch makers along with the Elgins! Also have a 1967 "solid" Gold, and band, Accutron that I bought brand new back in the day!
Was always my guess as well. There doesn't seem to be a lot of Info. out there about early Elgin Wristwatches. My question is, when did Elgin start selling Wristwatches already cased? I knew Elgin sold movements and Jewelers would install them in a wristwatch case.
I just had it serviced. I know the movement is an 0s, 7J dating to 1908. I emailed my repair guy for the case Info as I really hate to mess with the watch case myself. He gets upset when I do! I've had the watch for many years purchased from an auction last century for $10. It's my favorite...
Hi
I have been trying to find Information about my watch and have done many searches. The movement dates to 1908. Is it a men's or ladies watch? I read some early Wristwatch ads and some were advertised as both? I added some photos of the Watch. Any Info. will be welcome.
Just saw this thread and you caught me, which I rarely wear, wearing the Watch in my photo. A 1902 Elgin 18s Sterling Silver Pocket Watch with Gold Inlay. Watch is very close to mint!
I don't have the watch at this time, it's being serviced. It has a 0s movement 7J, grade 320 model 2. I will post a picture when I get the watch back. If I remember right it has a gold filled Wadsworth case with a snap on back. That Elgin "ad" you linked to does look like my watch.
Yes, I'm a Civil War nut and Pocket Watches on Ebay, if the serial number dates to the war years, go high. But my guess is not all of those watches were cased during the war and worn!
The Watch is being serviced as I type, but I will check out the case when I get it back and see if it can tell me some more history about the watch. Very Interesting!
Thanks, so there must have been Case makers that were making cases for wristwatches at the time my watch was bought in 1908. I don't have a photo, but it is definitely a case made for a wristwatch and not a 0s pocket watch converted to a wristwatch.
Have searched for Information with little luck. When did Elgin start making wristwatches with cases or was my watch case bought and had a Elgin movement installed. I know Pocket Watches were "turned" into Wristwatches and have seen them for sale on Ebay. Thanks in advance.
