10-4.... Thanks for pointing that out.
My wife will just have to hear my clock chime and strike.....LOL. I love to hear these clocks chime. But who knows, after I listen to the same thing week after week, I might have a different attitude....LOL.

Looking back at my first pics from above I see there is a set of slots in the seat board where the movement bolts down. The front of the case will not completely close right now so the latch will not catch. It appears there is an exact spot where the dial needs to enter a cut-out in the wood on...
Actually I did get everything straight last evening when I hung the clock on my wall. The string is a bit short but it isn't wrapped up in the hammers. That was one of the first things I checked. I will probably have to take out the movement to see what is keeping the chime and strike from...
Actually... same for me. I don't quite understand the function of the string as a prevention for keeping the chime hammers from operating. I watched the the way the lever would pull the hammers back when the string was pulled...BUT when you release the string, the hammers go right back to the...
OK.... so that explains why the the barrel on the right is fully wound. Because there is something about the mechanism that is not allowing the chime to operate. Therefore, without the chime operating, the strike will not operate either. Very good points you are bringing up...THANKS!! I am...
Thanks for those tips!
Ah ha, I didn't think I was underestimating the complexity of the movement. Thanks for pointing out that this is a 3 train movement. There are lots more wheels in there than a watch...LOL.
SO.... each spring barrel runs a different train. I guess that means only one will...
Hello all...
I have been collecting and doing basic repair on pocket watches for years. BUT, looking inside the works of a clock is a bit intimidating to me. SO.... with that said, onward to my project....
I recently found this old(?) German clock at the antique store. It runs great and keeps...
Well.... thanks to the help of Lenny Taub, I have my Chelsea back together and running!
Lenny replaced my broken balance staff for me. While I was waiting for the balance platform to return, I cleaned and polished up all the plates and gears. I got this old girl re-assembled yesterday afternoon...
Well, as for the hands.... I had to scrape off all the crud and the finish came with it.
I need to re-paint the hands with something. Either just paint or a replacement of the original substance.
Good idea on the OOOO steel wool. I have that handy at my shop. Do you think some silver polish...
Thanks JDT. That is similar to what I do for removing a mainspring from a watch barrel.
Since this whole situation is on a larger scale than I am used to,...
How do I SAFELY get the mainspring out and then after I get it clean..... how do I get it back in?
Thanks everyone!
Mike
I used the acid in the ketchup to remove the stains on the brass.
I didn't get a picture of the "after" result on the plate but they sure do look much better now. The plates were stained black in many places.
I plan to TRY to find some Brasso today so I can polish the plates. Then onward to the...
COOL..... thanks for the parts sources guys.
My clock is a 12E so it has an escapement platform like this:
I am still working on getting the clock apart for a complete cleaning. The gasket on the bezel is about half gone and cracked so moisture has gotten inside. It looks like the only real...
