That is very helpful Kurt. I can see the pendulum appears to be broken but was not sure that it did not match the clock. That is an issue for restoration I would think. I have not physically seen it yet. It is in the basement of a clock shop and looks like it has been there for some time. Maybe...
Would love that Eric. I am considering a bandstand 400 day with disc pendulum to restore. I believe it is Bowler and Burdick as it has Anniversary and registered trademark on the small dial and on the movement. Want to ensure I am getting a fair deal for the work I will put into it. It appears...
So just an update.....I took the movement apart again and inspected all the teeth. No issues there. I ran it without the hands for 75 hours at a perfect 540 balance amplitude. Then I added the hands and I noticed the hour hand rubbing on the six at the bottom of the dial!! Hands back off and...
Thanks for this. I initially let let run about 18 hours but as it was increasing pendulum amplitude to 540 I thought I was good to go. When I put on the hour hand it does seem to snap into place but I will definitely have a look at the clearance. But you would think that would slow down as...
Should also mention one more thing. The clock when full assembled yesterday ran for over 8 hours. At 5:00pm the balance oscillation was still over 510 and by 5:55pm the clock had stopped. Very strange. Maybe the minute hand slipping and out of poise? Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.
Some photos...the new minute hand. Longer stem and 4 grooves cut. The old hand ..shorter stem with only one groove cut. Then the 2 together. If I put the one with the shorter stem on it rides so close to the hour hand that I can't get the hand puller between them to remove the hands. Dangerous...
I have an Atmos clock (528-6) I am working on and after servicing it is running strongly with a balance amplitude of a little over 540. When I added the hands yesterday (new minute hand) it run for over 8 hours then suddenly stopped. As everything else seems in good order I am focusing on the...
Ahhhhh...makes sense. If I was to let one of my 3 go, would you keep the BHA and let one of the stamped Beckers go or would you keep the 2 stamped Beckers and let the BHA go? Appreciate your thoughts.
My 3. Totally agree you just can't keep them all. Wish I could! I keep a few and find good homes for the rest. I am struggling with letting go of the BHA clock. Not sure I can!
Thanks Dell. I fully agree on the spring guard. I have 3 Beckers now (only 1 is BHA) and they are all complete and running well. BTW, I do enjoy your videos. Very helpful for beat setting etc. and you have a terrific collection. Thanks for posting. David
Thought I would add my latest to the rest of the beautiful BHA clocks posted here. Have refurbished it and is running very well. Original glass and pendulum number matches the serial number. I really love these clocks.
Thanks for this Kurt. I feel the same way. This clock is a keeper for me. I like the way it looks and the way it runs. So I will keep it as it is for now and enjoy it. I also have a Becker BHA with a disc pendulum that I am working on next. so I will have the best of both! Thanks for your input.
Hi, I am a little confused by all the Becker dating conversations. I have been working in a Becker clock with a proper 4 ball pendulum that resembles a photo in my updated 10th edition Horolovar guide. It also has a photo of the pendulum dating to 1908 which I believe roughly matches the date...
