Thanks again to everybody for help with this Telechron clock. Attached are some pictures with the back off and the movement out of the case. It’s very clear now that the case has been painted and the dial is new. The hour hand is being difficult about moving, so back to a tiny bit of...
Good news. After a few drops of penetrating oil soaking in for a couple of days, I was able to get the knob off. It was threaded. I got a pair of pliers under the knob to tightly hold the stem and it unscrewed counterclockwise.
Thanks again to everybody for their help. Now we know these...
Thanks everybody for your replies. I did apply a small amount of penetrating oil last night. I’m not home this evening, but hopefully I can get to it tomorrow. I will take a closer look to see if I can find threads. David, yes the knob moves both ways. In other words, I can use it to turn...
I recently purchased this GE/Telechron “Refrigerator” clock, given away by GE to buyers of its early 1930's "Monitor Top" electric refrigerators. This clock has the original cord, which is nice, and it works very well. No noise from the motor. The case has been repainted, which is typical for...
I've never seen anything like what you have there. One would think the integrity of the brass around the pivot holes would have been compromised by the drilling. But, it sounds like you were able to install new bushings and get everything running. Good job. Thanks for sharing.
I found a picture of the movement. It shows the serial number (maybe that a date code) and "P H & S" is engraved on the right side under the crutch wire. I have more pictures of the movement if needed.
This clock was made by Philipp Haas and Sohne sometime in the 19th century. My notes indicate that it has bell shaped movement plates and a serial #82537, but I don’t have any pictures and I’m traveling for the next couple of weeks, so I can’t get any. The movement is engraved with a trademark...
Good question. I've had the clock since the early 2000s and never serviced it. For the past several months it won't run the entire week. I need to wind about every five days. Once wound, it takes right off, so I assume it's not a bushing problem. Once I disassemble it I'll see if the time...
Does anybody happen to know the mainspring sizes for an Ithaca No. 8 Shelf Library clock? It’s item #339 on page 140 of Trans Duy Ly’s Calendar Clocks book. The time movement was manufactured by E. N. Welch for Ithaca. Hopefully the pictures will help.
Of course, I can measure the...
Steven,
Thanks for all of the information. I didn’t realize that V. P. meant visible pendulum or that the escape wheel bridge on this clock was used around 1870 or so. I believe I have some articles on trademarks, so I’ll spend so time seeing if I can determine when New Haven started using...
My Father bought me this New Haven Steeple clock in the mid-1990s. Nothing worth taking out a rider on my house insurance, but a lot of sentimental value. It’s run faithfully ever since I got it. It probably could use a good cleaning after all this time. :) The label on the back of the case...
No luck at my local library. Nothing under "Tran", or "Duy", or "Ly". They just don't carry his books. Oh well, hopefully somebody on the message board has it and can post that one page.
Thanks again for all of your help.

Thanks everybody for your replies. Special thanks for the URL. I too noticed in that description they refer to "Ly illustrates this model in his 1989 Ansonia book, page 182, item 870." I have the 1998 edition. Perhaps Ly just didn't have room for it in the 1998 edition. I'm off to the...
Much to my dismay, I cannot find this circa 1883 Ansonia “ALHAMBRA” mantel clock in any of Tran Duy Ly’s books. It has an ebonized wooden case with hand-painted rubber panels. The clock stands 18" high, 17" wide and 5" deep. I scoured Tran’s “Ansonia Clocks & Watches, 1998 and all three of...
Thanks everybody for the help. I also searched the message board for "eclipse" and found some good information. One thing that was throwing me was the movement didn't strike on the half-hour. Took it out of the case last night and discovered somebody has bent the strike arm so that it misses...
I recently purchased a ST Eclipse mantel clock. It looks to largely be in original condition, except the case has been refinished at some point. It’s on page 724 of Tran Duy Ly’s Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements Third Edition – Volume 2, 2004, item 2463 & 2464, but no catalog date. I’d like to...
I purchased this August C Keebler novelty clock years ago and now am interested in learning more about it. I’ve Googled “August C Keebler Co” and the only thing I’ve learned is that they made Cuckoo Clocks. Not even Wikipedia has information on the company. “August C Keebler Co., Chicago, IL...
