Anyways, I was trying to use, what I thought, was machinist's terms. By 'mil' I meant 1/1000 of an inch. So my measurement difference resulted in 0.012" difference in heights. And admittedly, I didn't dig out...
To rule the plate out, I did the obvious. I measured the heights of the blocks directly and came up with a 12 mil difference between the center support and the ends. Fairly close to the feeler gauge method I originally used.

Before anyone gets too excited about having a three jaw chuck in the mill, I'm waiting for the proper collets to arrive so I put the chuck in temporarily just to get a sense of how everything is going to fit/work together.
