• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

    2974B mainspring

I have a recently acquired a Hamilton 16s 2974b navy comparing watch which is now at my watchmaker for cleaning, service, re-casing, and and a new MS (if needed). Would it be the same 534B used for the 992B and 950B? If not, do others know which number is it? Thanks!!

    Rockford 18s model 7

Hi Lee, You might also try posting your question on the PARTS WANTED or the WATCH REPAIR forums to search for hands. Finding ones that fit can be very frustrating indeed! Best of luck.

    Hampden pocket watch.

Hi Ed, Welcome to the site. If you send the watch to have it serviced the watchmaker can replace the crystal or you can also send just the bezel alone to have itreplaced.

    stuck pocket watch bezel

tracker, Make sure you take a look at the case cover from the side. If you see one side cocked a bit higher than the other it could be jammed by cross threading on the case ring. Awhile back I bought a nice watch in a GF case. When It got it and went to open the case back it wouldn't budge...

Paul, I have an old (somewhat beat up) Elgin 387 that I bought years ago for it's case and was able to re-case it in a cheap standard 16s base metal case. Paul

American PW balance Ball / Waltham model 1899 17 jewel parts.

Gentlemen, Thank you for the replies and information. I had no idea the ball version had a larger balance! I guess I should check mine also. I also have an 1899 to use as donor for the replacement. Thanks again.

American PW balance Ball / Waltham model 1899 17 jewel parts.

Gentlemen, I have an early Ball Waltham 17j movement at my watch maker for service and he found that the upper balance jewel is cracked needs to be replaced. I looked through a 1908 Waltham parts catalog, but saw no mention of the Ball 1899 model. Is it correct to assume (outside of the...

Correct palette for Mod. 1892 Royal #7538126 single roller.

Thanks Jerry, that makes my task much easier as I have a larger serial no. range to find one. Even one of my own, if I have to, as they all were made before 1908 with the exception of one and a couple are quite common and of the same grade.. Bila, Thanks for the advice and I will pass it...

Correct palette for Mod. 1892 Royal #7538126 single roller.

Jerry and Bila, Thank your for the reply and information on the palette and for the illustration noting the change. I will give my watchmaker a call and ask him to check the palette arms and arbor to be certain that their the square and straight version. Jerry I agree that using 1701 would be...

Correct palette for Mod. 1892 Royal #7538126 single roller.

Hi, I recently purchased an 18s model '92 Royal which stopped when placed FD. I brought it to my watch maker along with an earlier short bal. staff (as I assumed this was the problem), but as it turned out the staff was fine and it was the pivot on the palette arbor was broken. This Royal...

Gentlemen, I'm hoping to help a friend find a MS for a recent purchase he is restoring. He's not computer or internet savvy so I'm hoping to get some help. This is the information he gave me on the watch: I.W.C. Caliber 52 18 Lignes. Information on the broken spring: W: 2.25mm x L: 21" x...

Suitable mainspring winders for 18s & 16s pocket watches.

I am looking to get a K&D M.S. winder for 16s and 18s pocket watches. I have a 126, but it's really only good for 12s and smaller. Can someone tell me what the difference is between the K&D 125A Robbin's and 128? I know allot of people use the 128, but am wondering about the 125A, and would it...

American PW Waltham 16s 7j Questions

I can remember letting down many mainsprings prior to working on a watch, and noticed that it I gave a little horizontal shake the second hand would turn a bit. So, like rostomond, I thought is the balance swung freely the second hand moved. Thinking it through now, after reading this thread, I...

    mechanical watch won't wind

You never know what the problem is sometimes until you open it. I took a chance on a on a Hamilton 948 listed as "unable to wind" awhile back. I was a bit uncommon so I took a chance and bought it. When I removed the dial I saw that the lever spring had broken an a piece was lodged in the minute...

    Columbus Pocket Watch 18S

Need help Remove a stem from Elgin Pocket watch

Hi Keith, No, at this point you don't have to remove the crown, and you really can't (unless it's very loose). Pulling the crown out will allow you to remove the movement. Remember that the movement will drop out of the case from the DIAL side. You may have to give it a gentle prod from the...

Need help Remove a stem from Elgin Pocket watch

Hi Keith, Your 384 Elgin is a pendant set. So you need to grasp the crown and pull it out until you hear it click ( like setting a wrist watch). This disengages the winding clutch for setting of time and allows the movement to be removed. If you look at the picture you posted, you will see two...
