• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

    R.Innes Fusee watch

Holy thread revival Batman!!! Not long after the above posts, I was involved in a head on collision with a tractor and trailer (he was heading the wrong way up a one way and on a sharp bend!!!) and injured my shoulder, causing some movement and sensitivity loss to my right hand and arm. I...

Mechanical WW Tissot Seastar Seven Tools ID

Ahah! That makes great sense to me now. I suppose that they could also be used for the similar Omega with the split stems. I'm guessing that the split "ring" will sit in the centre of the tool so as not to over tighten (ie. can't close any more once the split closes fully) on the crystal...

Mechanical WW Tissot Seastar Seven Tools ID

Hi folks, I bought some crystal tools many moons ago for Tissot repairs. In the box are some metal pieces/adaptors ??? Can anyone give me a clue as to what they are used for? Thanks in advance. Mike

American PW Elgin 18S Barrel problem

It's not a screw as such but a screwed plug which screws into the outer circumference of the barrel and protrudes into it, giving a projection for the hole in the end of the mainspring to "latch" on to, so that it does not spin in the barrel.

American PW Elgin 18S Barrel problem

Many thanks for the suggestions folks. I cut a couple of narrow slits alongside the hole that had been for the screw, then shaped the end of the material in between to fit the square in the end of the mainspring. I filed a small wedge shape on the end, then gently bent the wedge inwards to...

American PW Elgin 18S Barrel problem

I have seen they type of "T" brace you mention but the spring I have (both old and new) have only the extension which goes through the removable top. There is no extension to go through the bottom of the barrel. I may try to rivet a peg onto the hole in the end of the spring, which could then...

American PW Elgin 18S Barrel problem

There is a screwed pin in the side of the barrel which holds the outer edge of the mainspring in place. It has worn/sheared off so the spring just slips. Are barrels available? The watch is otherwise perfect and it would seem to be a shame to lose it. I bought a new mainspring but that was...

    Waltham 1877 rebuild query

I found that another way is to hold the pallet arm in place with a touch of Rodico (or blu tack) attaching it to the end of the top plate. Fit the plate and remove the Rodico when all is lined up.

Many thanks for the replies. I guess that patience (as always!) is the key! Cheers, Mike

    Waltham 1877 rebuild query

Is there a trick in getting the top plate on as the fork end on the pallet arm has to fit through a hole and I keep knocking it out of position?

ETA Valjoux 7750 date change problem

The issue was the peg on the driving wheel had disappeared (found it floating about in the date mechanism-luckily no damage done!). A new wheel and the system is back up and running. Many thanks. I didn't realise how easy it was to get to the date changing gear once the cover was off (3...

    Chrono small hands removal

I've just tried the rodico and toothpick idea and it worked a treat. Job done in no time, thank you. I formed the Rodico into a tiny sausage shape and stuck the hand on it. I could then pick up the Rodico, rather than the hand and position the hole directly above the hand shaft before...

    Chrono small hands removal

Whenever I have tried that method, the hands have usually disappeared without trace! I was advised to do this method with everything in a clear plastic bag! Mike
