• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

How accurate are your antique clocks?

My Lister, Jr tall case clock loses a minute and a half each week. My 30 hour wood works Barnes and Bartholomew loses 1 minute every two days. My Sessions Revere banjo clock is accurate until it gets near the end of the week. It loses time as the spring unwinds.

    My Oldest Clock

My oldest clock is a tall case clock made by Thomas Lister, Jr of Halifax, England. My research shows that Lister stopped making clocks independently around 1796. After that he had a partner. So it's at least made sometime before 1796. I have a wooden works clock made by Barnes and Bartholomew...

Why does my 8 day Sessions Banjo clock need wound after 6 days?

Thank you for all the great advice! Update: I used to wind my clocks on Sunday mornings before church. Then our church changed it's start time so I began winding my Lister tall case and my Sessions banjo on Saturdays or earlier. And I began winding the banjo earlier week after week. Anyhow I...

Why does my 8 day Sessions Banjo clock need wound after 6 days?

Thank you all for your help and advice! It is not a family heirloom clock. I bought this on eBay around 2012. I bought it because my parents had a Sessions Revere banjo like this with the exception that his did not have a strike. Here is a picture of my grandparents in my parents kitchen from...

Why does my 8 day Sessions Banjo clock need wound after 6 days?

My Sessions Revere banjo clock is an 8-day clock. But lately I have had to wind it on the 6th day. Is there a reason for this? Today I wound it after I noticed it had stopped. I was able to wind around 13 half turns for both the strike and the time.

question about Sessions banjo clock hinge

Thank you Jim, for your reply. It's good to know that the cutout in the sash is original and not something that was altered by a PO. It looks like a weakness in Session's design . I think I will keep it as is for now. I'm afraid the hinge will not hold and it will crash to the floor. I was...

question about Sessions banjo clock hinge

I have a very nice Sessions Revere Banjo clock. I bought it on eBay years because It was like one my parents had hanging in our farmhouse kitchen, see the first pic. That's my grandparents sitting in front of it. It was missing the crystal. I soon saw why the bezel that held the crystal was...

    ID my brother's clock, please

Thank you, Steven. Anyone have an idea how it is? How can you tell it is not wood works clock?

    ID my brother's clock, please

My brother sold the farm we both grew up on on Friday. It had been a while since I was there. Our Dad had lots of clocks. He gave each of us 4 kids a shelf clock or a wall clock. I have a Barnes and Bartholomew wooden works clock that runs good. Anyhow, I saw my brother's clock was running and...

Barnes and Bartholomew just stopped working

Update Nov 21, 2021: The Barnes and Bartholomew is still running and keeping good time. Winding it is part of my daily morning routine.

The hardest clock to wind in your collection?

Of my three running clocks, Thomas Lister tall case, a Barnes and Bartholomew wooden works clock and a 1929 Sessions Revere banjo clock, the hardest to wind is my Sessions banjo. Reasons: it uses a key not a crank, it is spring not weights and I have to use my left hand. It is located in our...

    Identify friend's Seth Thomas please

My friend has this nice Seth Thomas clock hanging in his kitchen. It came out of his church. Can anyone tell me more about it, like the approximate build date (I did not take it off the wall so I did not look inside to look for a date) Thank you.

Show us your Half hour markers on brass dials

I know we have had this discussion before about the date or authenticity of my Lister clock. Some said, if I recall correctly, that the Hepplewhite case came later. I'll have to search for that thread. What would taking off the chapter ring show me? How difficult is that? Is it possible that...

    Back to Standard Time

For those of us in most of the United States, we went back to Standard Time today. This morning before church I stopped my three clocks that run around 9:00 DST. So an hour later I restarted them. In that hour it was strangely quiet in my downstairs. I have a tall case clock in the living...

Show us your Half hour markers on brass dials

Here are two shots of my Thomas Lister of Halifax tall case clock. Lister, Jr. worked alone in Halifax until 1795. He then partnered with Bromley. So this clock was made in or before 1795.

    My sister's clocks

My sister sent me pictures of the inside of her clocks. Here are the inside shots along with the previously shown clocks. Thank-you for your expertise! My Dad had a lot of clocks and I guess my sister and I have the bug. Clock #1. From your thoughts above this looks like a Junghans. Does the...

    Sessions Revere 36" clock glass

You might be right about my Sessions Revere clock being a later model instead of a more expensive model with more bells and whistles. Here are pics of Sessions ads I have in my files. Both of these are from 1927. What's neat is that our house was built in 1929 so my Revere banjo is period...
