• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

400 DAY CLOCK "THE BOWLER & BURDICK CO. CLEVE OHIO"

That is very helpful Kurt. I can see the pendulum appears to be broken but was not sure that it did not match the clock. That is an issue for restoration I would think. I have not physically seen it yet. It is in the basement of a clock shop and looks like it has been there for some time. Maybe...

400 DAY CLOCK "THE BOWLER & BURDICK CO. CLEVE OHIO"

As I mentioned, not my clock yet. Considering acquiring it for restoration. Seems a nice clock.

Hi Eric I did reply and send a couple of pics but now I don't see them. Did you see them?

400 DAY CLOCK "THE BOWLER & BURDICK CO. CLEVE OHIO"

Would love that Eric. I am considering a bandstand 400 day with disc pendulum to restore. I believe it is Bowler and Burdick as it has Anniversary and registered trademark on the small dial and on the movement. Want to ensure I am getting a fair deal for the work I will put into it. It appears...

    Barrel mainspring arbor post separates

Yes for sure some kind of pin is missing. I put alternate pins in and that seems to have done the trick for now. Although there is a bit of back and forth play that I don t see in the 3rd arbour. Is that OK?

    Barrel mainspring arbor post separates

Thanks I figured that but the posts just seem to spin and spin. They dont seem to catch on anything. is there something I should be doing to help?

    Barrel mainspring arbor post separates

I am working on a westminster chime clock for a friend and I have encountered an issue I haven't seen before. The arbour for 2 of the mainsprings has separated into 2 parts. When I put them back together the winding shaft just spins. There must be something I need to do to get the 2 pieces to...

    Poising Atmos hands

So just an update.....I took the movement apart again and inspected all the teeth. No issues there. I ran it without the hands for 75 hours at a perfect 540 balance amplitude. Then I added the hands and I noticed the hour hand rubbing on the six at the bottom of the dial!! Hands back off and...

    Poising Atmos hands

Thanks for this. I initially let let run about 18 hours but as it was increasing pendulum amplitude to 540 I thought I was good to go. When I put on the hour hand it does seem to snap into place but I will definitely have a look at the clearance. But you would think that would slow down as...

    Poising Atmos hands

Should also mention one more thing. The clock when full assembled yesterday ran for over 8 hours. At 5:00pm the balance oscillation was still over 510 and by 5:55pm the clock had stopped. Very strange. Maybe the minute hand slipping and out of poise? Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

    Poising Atmos hands

Some photos...the new minute hand. Longer stem and 4 grooves cut. The old hand ..shorter stem with only one groove cut. Then the 2 together. If I put the one with the shorter stem on it rides so close to the hour hand that I can't get the hand puller between them to remove the hands. Dangerous...

    Poising Atmos hands

I have an Atmos clock (528-6) I am working on and after servicing it is running strongly with a balance amplitude of a little over 540. When I added the hands yesterday (new minute hand) it run for over 8 hours then suddenly stopped. As everything else seems in good order I am focusing on the...

Ansonia Mantel clock stops when winding

Now that is interesting. The plates did appear to be very straight. I wonder if that is exactly what happened? I didn't want to start bending them my self so used the washers Instead as a kind of test. It is absolutely possible that someone added bushings and straightened the plates and then...

Ansonia Mantel clock stops when winding

Yes that makes sense. It does appear that some bushing work has been done as I see very little wear in them. I didn't install any. Chamfering the inside of those bushings may be the final bit of work to be done but for now I will leave it running with the spacers between the plates and see if...

Ansonia Mantel clock stops when winding

Interesting development...I removed the movement from the case and started by examining the end shake on the going train. On the second wheel there was none! Bushings were good but very little end shake in general. Robbing power for sure. I took the movement apart and examined the second wheel...

Ansonia Mantel clock stops when winding

Great history. Thanks for this. I have another French clock (very heavy) with a presentation plaque to a departing minister from the senior Bible class in 1911. I am a suckered for these.

Ansonia Mantel clock stops when winding

Hi Joe, the plaque on the Walnut clock reads "Presented to P C Herbert Welham as a mark of esteem by the officers and men of East Dulwhich Sub. Div. Metro Police on his retirement on pension June 22nd 1913. AFTER 25 YEARS". I have no connection to it but I just love the history!

Wow. That is so helpful. My swing is nowhere near that. So now I have something to work towards! Thanks again
