• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

b l fehrenbach bishops stortford Has anyone heard of them

Has your clock got a wooden movement? JTD No - wooden plates but brass wheels. The pivots appear to be running directly in the wood without brass bushings. When I wind the spring slightly it ticks away quite happily even though I haven't cleaned it at all. Cheers, Arthur

b l fehrenbach bishops stortford Has anyone heard of them

Good to hear that you can now see it & thanks for your efforts thus far. I've tried looking at the name in UV light & also looked for likely matches in road atlas indexes ..... but still have not come up with anything. A friend found a Fehrenbach in Perth which is a closer source than many of...

b l fehrenbach bishops stortford Has anyone heard of them

I wonder if anyone can help me identify the Fehrenbach who made this clock? It is a spring driven wall clock, very much in the Black Forest style, with the pivots running in wooden plates. It belongs to a friend who has asked me to revive it - although the case is a bit of a mess (peeling veneer...

Help dating a Wag on the Wall

Phew - that must have taken you a while to write. But your time & comments are very much appreciated & have been printed off for future reference. I had though that I had done as much as I could on the clock, but I've a feeling that it may well have just become next winter's project! A quieter...

Help dating a Wag on the Wall

Thanks for your helpful comments. As mentioned, I had decided that completely dismantling the wooden frame was more likely to damage it than to be beneficial, so I don't know whether or not the clock has the brass inserts. It would certainly make sense if it did as I could not understand why the...

Help dating a Wag on the Wall

I think that the weights are lead with a brass casing. It seems to run happily with the heavier (2 Kg) one on the going train & the 1 Kg one on the strike. Initially I tried it the other way round but the clock would only run for a couple of minutes. Normally I would assume that the heavier...

Help dating a Wag on the Wall

Thanks for the confirmation & further details. The clock was bought in Scotland where they are affectionately referred to as Waggit the wa' clocks. (Think Wagging on the wall with an Aberdeenshire accent). Whether or not it has spent all its life here, I don't know. Out of interest, I managed...

Help dating a Wag on the Wall

I'm currently working on a friend's Wag on the Wall clock which he picked up at an auction, so doesn't know the background history of it. My (inexpert) guess is that it is a German Black Forest Stollenuhr, probably from the mid to late 1800s. There is no maker's mark, but there is the number 12...

Cuckoo Ageing a Schneider cuckoo clock

Yes, my understanding is also that the 25s are 1 day movements & the 34s 8 day ones. I'm sure that I read somewhere that the 25 & 34 are the nominal lengths of the respective pendulums .... but I can't find the source again. Maybe I imagined it. Regarding the letter/year code - I've read that...

Cuckoo Ageing a Schneider cuckoo clock

Thanks for that information which has helped me to make more sense of the stampings. Out of interest - does your clock have a stamp 34-E which I think might be the code for a 34cm pendulum model made in 1994? (See Dating your Regula Cuckoo Clock Movement for the list of codes). I have also...

Cuckoo Ageing a Schneider cuckoo clock

Yes - indeed there is. Underneath the silencing lever, I found 'Synt-Oil' and also Clock 859. (A design code perhaps??). I also found references on the internet to the 25-A which implied that 25 could be the pendulum length and that the 'A' might be a year of manufacture code which could refer...

Cuckoo Ageing a Schneider cuckoo clock

Hi, I'm servicing a Schneider cuckoo clock for a friend who picked it up at an auction & is wondering how old it is. I've attached a couple of piccies, but in case they are not clear, there seems to be two numbers (model & serial??) after the letters GM. 1884288 and 1692176. There is also a...

Can anyone help date & identify this clock, please?

Looking at the Mikrolisk website again, I notice that the Junghans trademark is based on an 8 pointed star. I also notice that on both the clock which you illustrate & on my one, the TH mark is contained within an 8 pointed star. Coincidence? Or does it suggest that both were produced after the...

Can anyone help date & identify this clock, please?

I've just found Milliput on the internet - I wasn't sure if I could get it in the UK. Sounds ideal. Thanks again.

Can anyone help date & identify this clock, please?

The movement certainly looks similar with the (to my way of thinking) unusual arrangement of the escape wheel on the front face. If TH was using the same plates for several clocks it might explain why the winder is offset on my clock rather than in the more normal 6 o'clock position. The clock...

Can anyone help date & identify this clock, please?

Thanks all for your helpful comments. I've attached a picture of the back of the clock - there is no trademark or stamp on it, though I don't know if the 4 punch marks in the bottom left corner tell us anything. There were similar marks on the inside of the backplate. Regarding the beading -...

Can anyone help date & identify this clock, please?

Hi, A friend has given me this clock to try get it running. She was fairly sure that it is German & I would tend to agree with that. From the initials TH behind the pendulum I'm guessing that it might be a Tomas Haller clock - Mikrolist doesn't seem to offer any other suggestions, but the...
