• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

    Fusee Clock Mainspring Adjustment Query

By slow it down you mean lower the pendulum bob rather than adjusting the pre-tension, right?

    Fusee Clock Mainspring Adjustment Query

Evening folks, I’ve been working on an English two fusee clock movement off and on for some months. I’ve got it reassembled and it runs nicely. I’m curious about the fine tuning of the time side mainspring. Currently the pre-load/set-up is one full turn of the mainspring arbor. The clock...

That may well be what I do but I'd like to have a backup plan just in case!

Thanks for the guidance! If I don’t want to attempt it myself, any recommendations for who to contact?

Replacing Convex Glass in Bracket Clock Bezel

No visible seam. Here’s the inside of the bezel from front and back:

Replacing Convex Glass in Bracket Clock Bezel

Here we go: Appears to be a single piece spun bezel with a groove that the glass edge fits into. I assume the type that would have required the bezel to be heated so the glass dropped in and was held tight as the brass cooled and shrunk. Here’s the glass taped back together for measurement...

Replacing Convex Glass in Bracket Clock Bezel

Hi all - I have a Regency bracket clock with a convex glass in the bezel, now sadly broken. I'm located in Canada but want to have this replaced properly. Can anyone recommend someone to install the replacement glass?

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

That would make sense. Going in one direction the lever would be spring loaded so it wouldn't require much force to activate it and going in the opposite direction the pin would just force the lever along until it stopped. The pins would also serve to keep the lever from falling off the end of...

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

So far, in poking through the internet the only mechanism I could find that looks like it might make sense is this one: It moves within the two guide pins on the back of the dial but this one has a snail to guide the top of the lever whereas all I have is a disc with two pins.

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

That's my guess too. What I can't figure out is how the top of lever interacts with the pins on the disc behind the Strike/Silent hand. The diameter of the disc and the spacing of the pins doesn't seem like the usual method of a vertical slot in the lever would work.

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

Yes, there is a screw hole and hole for a guide pin on the rear of the backplate that would line up with a leaf spring.

There doesn't appear to be; that's where the suspension spring cock is located.

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

Yes, a screwed hole and hole for a guidepin on the backplate that would make sense for a leafspring to activate a push/pull arbour.

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

Yes, there are holes for a leaf spring on the backplate as well as a hole on the top centre of the front plate for what I assume was a pivot for the L-shaped lever to depress the lifting lever arbour. Here are a couple of side shots showing the holes where the lifting lever arbour went...

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

Yes, that‘s what I assume was there originally but I can’t understand how the pins on the disc behind the strike/silent hand interested with the top of the lever. The distance between them and the range of travel a simple lever with a slot in the top must have had seems too wide to fit between...

English Longcase Strike-Silent Mechanism Help Needed

Interesting mechanism on the Thomas Baker movement! In my case, my confusion stems more from how the strike-silent hand above the dial connect to the push/pull arbour that is activated by the strike/silent hand. The hand is attached through the dial to a disc about 2.5 inches in diameter that...
