• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

1905 Bawo and Dotter tube-chimer - maintenance questions

Barkeepers friend on the tubes is probably a terrible idea. I suggest watching a couple YouTube vids on polishing. Go to harbor freight. Buy a decent 8” grinder if you don’t already have one. Get a buffer wheel for it and the grey or green rouge.

Unidentified Regulator was once a wall hanger

to me, the scribe marks on the escape wheel are indicative that it didn't come from the factory. also, normally (not always) escape wheels are crossed out to make them as light as possible. i love the fancy plates, but this clock was probably built in era when parts like this would have been...

Unidentified Regulator was once a wall hanger

i am digging your clock. my thought is that the cabinet and the movement are probably home made. I think most of the wheels are from another clock but the escape wheel and the plates-i believe-were bespoke. i think someone did a good job on it though. the wood spool on the winding barrel...

Elmer O. Stennes Grandmother Clock Door Key Profile

its a shame about the fretting on the top left. i would just buy a few small reproduction skeleton keys and file one down until it fits. go slow and take a little off at a time. its not like a modern key lock. even without a pattern, i bet you can get it to work with 20 minutes of effort.

9 Tube ID: B&D/Elite, Jacques, or Borgfeldt?

bluelotus is correct. the movements were made Mathias bauerle. Jacques was the designer who apparently licensed them to the manufacturer. I'm not sure what you mean when you say other movements with the patent chime on other branded clock movements. in the usa, i think both bawo and dotter...

9 Tube ID: B&D/Elite, Jacques, or Borgfeldt?

Anything is possible, but I don’t think so. I really think it is a Jacques product. The winding holes look like to me like they are in the correct position for his higher end (I think) PAA movement. And yes, that tune is a really uncommon one…. I guess the only way to know for sure would be to...

9 Tube ID: B&D/Elite, Jacques, or Borgfeldt?

It is a Jacques movement for sure. Notice the elite flower insignia above the 12. I would guess it’s a later borgfeldt product after 1915. The 3 chime movement is pretty uncommon. Personally, this cabinet doesn’t really jump out and slap me in the face, but I do think this was one of jacques’...

    Hanson “grandmother” 5 tube

Well, my guess by looking at the cabinet and not having any other information, I might suppose it’s more likely a Hans winterhalder rather than the father’s company of w&h. If it is indeed stamped hwn, it would have been made before 1923. Hawina came after that date.

1980s benchmade Effinger tall clock...any others out there?

well, who knows? the ebay auction was at least 2+ years ago. not sure how far the archives go back. it was also listed on craigslist as a cabinet only, no movement. I don't see a location for you and i can't remember the location previously but it was definitely in the eastern united states-i...

1980s benchmade Effinger tall clock...any others out there?

it is a beauty! the cabinet was for sale on ebay for perhaps a year or two. i think the seller eventually decided to install a dial an movement. as far as modern movements are concerned, this one is about a good as it gets. i saw one of these movements in a cheap homemade cabinet at an estate...

Full Restoration of Colonial Manufacturing Co/Winterhalder/HWN Grandfather Clock...

nice work. the speaker grill fabric probably would have been held on originally with hyde glue. however, the method you used will work just fine. its pretty amazing to me how various items such as the tubes and weights were all made by the same companies across the board for pretty much...

Jo s Hunt 3 train longcase questions

looks like it plays Westminster and another 8 bell tune judging by the top right sub-dial. i would also agree that this clock is late 1800's but built to look like it is older

    Customer Tubular

that is an odd one bud. i have seen a movement like that before but it was a good while ago and i can't seem to remember the details. my observations are that this is a rather early tube clock perhaps around 1900 plus or minus a few years. i think it was built before tubular clock movements...

    Thoughts/advice on a 9 Tube Elliott

I don't know what to tell you about the seat board perches. the left side doesn't look too abnormal to me. the right side is another story. it could be a factory original. i have no explanation as i have never seen that design before either. the hammer arrangement is not so crazy to me. i...

Full Restoration of Colonial Manufacturing Co/Winterhalder/HWN Grandfather Clock...

some were brushed such as the herschede, some were polished such as the jacques clocks. I really don't know about this particular model. you should be able to look at the bob and tell? looks like you are doing a nice job so far. keep up the good work.

My Newest Acquisition. What is it?

It is a charles Jacques design built by bauerle. This is the monestary movement. B & d stands for bawo and dotter. This is the company that imported your clock
