    Watches as investments?

That’s good news. I’m sure I’ll want to wind it every once in a while before I lay it back in my safe. Heck, I don’t even really need to get it out. I have probably a dozen pictures of it.

    Watches as investments?

So does that mean I could still possibly find a mainspring if this one was to break? I imagine if it was a movement of a unique creation, it would be very difficult to find. Just a thought I guess.

    Watches as investments?

I feel like that’s how this watch could be some day maybe. To be honest though, I was so happy to have one, that that’s probably an investment itself. The joy of actually finally obtaining one I mean.

    Watches as investments?

Yes, still much practice needed, haha. New goal in life: be able to purchase the things I like and still be married.

    Watches as investments?

Yeah, that might be a better method. Might be a stretch, but have to work with what I got, haha.

    Watches as investments?

My problem now is that I’m trying to convince my wife that it’s a good idea to purchase the model 1 and model 3. They’re basically the same watch, with some slight cosmetic difference on the movement. I’m trying to shoot the “It’s appreciable property” angle, knowing good and well I don’t want...

    Watches as investments?

Sorry for sounding so cryptic. It actually might be junk to a lot of people, but I like it. It’s a Dudley Masonic Model 2. So, I’ve been a lodge member since my early 20s. It’s has been like a family tradition sort of thing for my family to join. Kinda like joining the Boy Scouts or something...

    Watches as investments?

I guess in all honestly, I was just hoping it could hold its value. I’m trying to convince my boss at home that it’s not such a terrible idea to purchase another one if one becomes available, haha. I’ll be really honest, they’re is something very satisfying about finally obtaining something that...

    Watches as investments?

Oh shucks. That’s what I feared, haha. You’re right though. It’s feels pretty irrational, that’s why I had to ask

    Watches as investments?

Hey everybody. I was just wondering what some of y’all thought about pocket watches as an investment? I know there are so many factors at stake, and I’m definitely not talking about dropping a whole nest egg into pocket watches, haha. I recently purchased an early American pocket watch. I’m not...

    Antique pocket watch upkeep

Hey everybody, I've been really interested in pocket watches for a long time. I have several examples, most of them family heirlooms, but I would say I am far from having much of a collection. I'm in the process of trying to buy a model of a watch that I have had my eyes on for probably 10-15...

    Having Trouble Installing Mainspring

I'm having some trouble installing the mainspring on my Elgin pocket watch. I'm thinking that maybe the hole at the end of the mainspring is not lining up with the little notch on the inside of the barrel. When I previously installed it, it would act like it was tightening up, but after several...

    Ingraham clock pendulum question.

I'm trying to fix an Ingraham clock for my father. It runs but keeps terrible time. Yesterday I set it and it gained an hour and a half in 8 hours. I'm certain the problem is the spring steel that is attached to the pendulum. I had to make one to see if I could get it running. I have the...

American PW Questions concerning fixing an Elgin mainspring.

I measured the barrel from my watch yesterday. It had a diameter of about 16 mm inside. Would a mainspring winder it has piece with it that range from 9-15mm. Would this work with my barrel? Also would these sizes work with any other typical pocket watch sizes?

American PW Questions concerning fixing an Elgin mainspring.

Thanks!! Another question... I've seen a lot of people mention a swigart manual for watches or something along those lines. Is this a good resource for questions like this??

American PW Questions concerning fixing an Elgin mainspring.

Hi everybody, I'm new to the the forum and watch repair. My dad and I started, I guess you could say, a joint project. We have one of his old Elgin pocket watches that isn't working anymore and we decided that we were going to work on it. We both did some research and assumed the mainspring was...
