Thanks for that. The electroalarm has a second coil for the bell and a somewhat complex circuit for the alarm that I am just figuring out. I'm hoping that by replacing the coil with a good one and restoring all the original connections, all functions will be revived.
I have been working on a Telechron Electroalarm for about 2 years. It has a good motor but the coil is defective. I finally found a good coil for it in a derelict Telechron alarm clock that had a built in light. This coil will make the rotor turn and the defective rotor that came out of the...
Mike - here are 4 photos of the "color wheel" to guide you in creating one. The first photo shows a seam in the foil that covers the wheel. Each photo that follows is a 90 degree rotation of the wheel TOWARDS you. that should give you the whole layout, if you want to re-create the color scheme...
mike - i will send you a photo in the next couple of days. were you able to get the mechanism out of the case? I can't figure out how to do it, it's missing a bit of clearnace. my motor runs, but no time telling so i need to get to the train to fix it. more details when i send you the photo.
I have a United Clock Company "fireplace" clock, as shown below. The motor runs fine but the train does not move. You can see that an extension runs the color wheel which creates the flickering flame effect in the fireplace. This will turn intermittently.
I am surmising that the cheap...
I would appreciate information, not questions indicating you didn't fully read my original post. If your goal is to prove that I am an *******, I already know that.
Yes, I disconnected wires. As stated in first post, I reversed them when I saw clock running backwards with no effect...
I know what reverse polarity is. Which is why I switched the power lead to coil connections. How else is it possible for it to be reverse polarity? Please explain.
I am in the process of getting an old Telchron Model 700 Electroalarm running. I have posted it about a month ago on this board.
It seems to have a bad B2 rotor and a bad coil. Rather then get the rotor restored I thought I would search the local flea markets, yard sales and junk stores for...
I recently picked up a Telechron 700 for 20 bucks. Cabinet is in good shape, but clock doesn't work. Taking it apart was straightforward, except it took me a week to ease the hour hand off the post - it seemed to be welded on.
The B2 rotor is froze, and the coil shows open when tested with...
RJ- I'm familiar with all the variations you note above. Won't have a chance to get at the watch for a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, has anyone else actually opened one of these?
I was recently given a relatives Gruen pocket watch. It has a built in Reuge music box which I believe is mounted on the watch back.
I would like to know how to remove this particular case back. It will screw about a third of a turn and stop . I am reluctant to put too much force to it lest...
there are numerous threads on dial repair on this board. a recent one on transfer printing is especially informative. there are porcelain repair epoxy type adhesives that you can build up missing chunks with. these are also referenced in the thread on transfer printing. I suggest you search dial...
how was it done? One of the auxiliary gears looks homemade - the nickel one - but the brass auxiliaries look stock. Nickel gear appears swagged into the plate from the top while the others seem to be riding on shafts - maybe threaded into a hole in the top plate?
a very cool find!! it raises...
No need to heat the dial the way I do it, Tom. I use flake shellac dissolved in denatured alcohol. You brush it on, hold the 2 parts up to a 100 watt bulb and it sets in about a minute. You can reverse it by putting the dial in alcohol for a couple of minutes - no heat needed.
I don't guess...
All the prior input is dead on. And it sounds like you did everything right. Let me add 2 things to consider. I have several watches that keep excellent time in all positions but go wonky when carried in a pants pocket. They stop erratically or lose time. Outside the pocket they run fine and...
