    You say there is a hole. If the fit is reasonably good, like not way oversize, clean and flux the hole. Then using a fine gage rosin core solder, cut off tiny pieces.     A closer examination reveals it definitely is for a tube. 2 screws are for hanging a tube. Now to find the right tube! I really like the sound of a deep tone coiled going! Many thanks!

    Thanks. I suppose that's a possibility. The hammer on the side has an adjustable rebound bumper. A spring- loaded piece of wood.

    This escapement was a pretty fancy product. Merritt's had them listed as Swiss Platform escapements. They were expensive about C note. My catalog is old. Best to inquire.

    I got one of those years ago. No escapement whatsoever. I found an escapement at the defunct Empire Clock. Maybe the escapement you got isn't the proper one. Mt clock was branded Salem, but had Schatz on the back plate.

    Most are marked Harrington. It will be a little while before I put them all up. The SS tube is polished and is much closer to $200. The 6' brass, mentioned earlier is polished too. But I have a nickel plater close by. That would add at least another $100 to the bill.

    Many of the older ST clocks have a date code stenciled on the case. year made is the reverse of what the number says.
