Diamond-Shape Escutcheon for Terry Clock Door

Jim, Thanks. Results look terrific. Even looks like ivory. Hope such "vandalism" on 19th century clocks, whatever is in the minds of those doing it , ceases.

Diamond-Shape Escutcheon for Terry Clock Door

Jim, Thanks but I don't have any of those pieces of equipment or a workshop. My expertise is pretty much limited to an exacto knife and similar desktop items. Your written guidance is helpful though. If I can find a local shop or acquaintance who has those tools, perhaps I can just pay him to...

Diamond-Shape Escutcheon for Terry Clock Door

Bill, Thanks. I'm going to avoid use of ivory (piano key) even though I plan to bequeath the clock, not sell it. Still concerned some "letter-of-the-law" idiot might "gouge its eye out" way in the future, long after I'm gone. For now, I will just leave on the (historically inaccurate)...

case part Splat for Terry pillar & splat clock

Looking for a decent condition original stenciled splat for a Terry clock, with nice still life or foliage type imagery on black background. Perhaps someone has retained a nice looking one from a clock for which the wooden movement and rest of the case were beyond restoration or redemption.

Diamond-Shape Escutcheon for Terry Clock Door

Jim, Thanks. Your comment and photos of what happened at the auctions is appalling. I believe the ivory escutcheon on each of those 19th century clocks would have met the antiques exemption of the law. Not sure what the dealers were thinking. Mine is a multi-generation family clock which will...

Diamond-Shape Escutcheon for Terry Clock Door

Bruce -- Thanks for the tip. I had assumed originals were brass but perhaps mine was ivory. I'll keep looking for an original made of either.

Diamond-Shape Escutcheon for Terry Clock Door

I inherited this Samuel Terry Pillar & Scroll shelf clock. During the many decades in my aunt's house, it was always missing its original small diamond-shaped brass escutcheon on the key hole.To alleviate the ugly hole left when the original was pried off, possibly done 100 years or so ago due...

    Samuel Terry Clock Repair Search

I own a Samuel Terry clock that's been in my family for generations. It's developed two issues that need repair. Last time it had an issue (2012), I shipped the wood movement box off to Don Bruno at Torrington Clock Co. and was very pleased with his work. I now find he is retired, so I did a...
