Guys, what do you think the case timber is on this one? Oak or mahogany? edit**….sorry scratch that…I think we had already said oak!:emoji_speak_no_evil:

Those were my original thoughts too but gentle tapping didn’t move it at all. A closer look and it almost looks like it has been soldered to the bezel…see what you think… photo is the top end…the other end is flanged slightly.

I was thinking exactly that! :chuckling:

My terminology is probably askew as per usual lol….the support straps….as pic below… I don’t really want to have to remove them! I have the bezel removed now but as these aren’t screwed on, I’ve had to leave them in place.

    French Mantle Number 2

Hi guys, I picked this French mantle clock up from eBay last week. The seller packaged it incredibly badly resulting in serious damage upon it’s arrival. Couple of questions to kick off with. I need to replace the flat bevelled glass in the front door. I have found someone to make me a glass…I’m...

Cranked this one into life earlier….fantastic to hear her running! A massive thank you again to Jezster18 for the bob and rod! I gave them some time earlier and the came up really quite nicely :) A very kind gesture which was gratefully received. Hopefully I can return the favour one day. I...

Thank you Simon, that is appreciated. I’ll have a hunt about and failing that, give you a shout :)

That’s fantastic….thank you so much! I’ll be able to give it a clean up no problem…I can spray if with some release oil and leave it to sit for a bit. I sometimes use the stuff on seized car parts and it works quite well. I’ll get some photos up once I’ve given it a bit of a tidy up….:)

That is a really kind offer and I would be very happy to accept…thank you so much! I’m very grateful :) I have to say, that is a saying I am familiar with and it stands true. I’ll pop you over a message shortly. Please let me at least cover the shipping though!

That’s great, thank you. I’m actually an electrician to trade and so as you can probably imagine, a sharp chisel is not a tool I possess! I will pick one or two up though for use on the clocks. I haven’t bought any hide glue yet but intended to get some at some point as my other longcase needs...

Cheers for that. I'm afraid case repair is still something I know very little about. Appreciate the pointers though....I think I'll be on the look out for an oak donor item...would be handy to have for future repairs.

Ah yes, I have seen those. One popped up on Gumtree with a painted bob not long before I found this one. Might be a stretch to find a painted one for a decent price.

Cheers Willie….I should be able to use the suspension spring that the guy incorporated into his makeshift pendulum as it looks fine. I’ve bought rods from Wardles before which have been fine which just leaves the bob. I’d prefer a period bob if I’m honest but if all else fails, I’ll resort to a...
