I am a 60 year old early retiree with lots of time on my hands these days. My fascination with RR Pocket Watches stems from the fact my late grandfather, Leonard Clay Rainey, was an Engineer on the Seaboard Coastline RR for almost 40 years retiring in 1978 when I was 19. My Avatar is my Grandfather at the yard in 1975. From the time when I was old enough to remember he would take me to the "Roundhouse" where all the RR Men hung out and I was able to get an up close and personal experience with RR Engines. I also was able on several occasions ride with him in the Engine on a run to Richmond VA. I was so proud he was my grandfather because everyone looked up to "Doc" as he was affectionally called by his peers.
In my younger years around the age of 22 I happened to lose the RR watch he gave me that was his fathers, who had also retired from the Railroad. I guess I wasn't ready for the responsibility for owning one of those fine timepieces. To this day I often wonder if I will ever run up against his engraved Hamilton RR watch.
So here I am now with grandchildren of my own and they understand my grandfathers history and they have seen my collection of RR pocket watches that change with the wind as I like to buy and sell them depending on their condition. I allowed them to pick out one each for themselves to own one day. As of today they have chosen a 950B and the granddaughter picked out a South Bend "The Studebaker" so those now reside in my safe until they change their minds and pick another one. Which they seem to do every couple months when I have obtained more for them to look through.
If you happen to have a Hamilton RR Watch with the initials LCR on the back please contact me. I would love to own it again!
The search continues and its quite interesting indeed!
God Bless Everyone and Happy Hunting!

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a mans character, give him power. "Abraham Lincoln"
