Latest Clock... anyone have a microscope?!?

I also have one of these. It's a lovely little clock and it's always run reliably and kept good time. It's's one of my favourites, having been my first 400day purchase for 3quid at a boot sale with a broken SS. It got me started with 400 day clocks. I also currently have a friend's clock...

I bought a Time Bomb - On purpose!

Guys- I've read everything I could find on the GTB, here and all over the InterWeb, and I couldn't resist the ad on a certain auction site. I just had to have one! It arrived yesterday, having crossed the Atlantic without going off, and it's now on my mantel in pride of place next to my Atmos...

    Schatz Electric Torsion Clock

Thanks Burkhard. I keep learning something new every day! I've also learned that a replacement compatible battery is now available so I'll be looking to rebuild the old battery holder. That'll be fun!

    Schatz electric

Burkhard- Sorry mate, can't help with the anchor but as for the electrical bit, I've found that my BA runs much better with a 3 volt battery pack. Ok, my plastic 2xAA holder isn't original but the clock was designed to run on a No.8 battery, at 3V. Much stronger and less frequent rewinds, no...

    Schatz Electric Torsion Clock

An update on this interesting little clock. As I said earlier, the battery clips on mine were so badly corroded that I couldn't use them, so, like the one in the youtube video, I was running it on a single AA battery. Problem was that it only ran for about a minute between rewinds, and I could...

    Schatz Electric Torsion Clock

Guys, Thanks for the help. That all makes a lot of sense. And you're right,- if it's not broke, don't fix it. I was just curious as to what the little lever was for. Also it's good to know how it's powered. So it's essentially a weight-driven torsion clock? Interesting. And a nice thing to...

    Schatz Electric Torsion Clock

I was recently given a Schatz electric torsion clock and could do with some information. I hope someone can help me with it. It's a torsion clock similar in appearance to a type 53, and is date stamped "11/56" When I got it, the battery holder was badly corroded so I fitted a new one and now it...

    Graduation/coming of age...

Thanks, Jim. That's very good advice. I wasn't going to go into it unprepared and I've been reading whatever I can find about the Atmos. But there doesn't seem to be a great deal available apart from on this site. I do have my sister's new husband's Atmos here awaiting attention but it has a...

    Graduation/coming of age...

I've been interested in mechanical clocks since at the age of 8 I fished my dad's discarded (Smith's of Enfield) wind-up alarm clock out of the trash and brought it back to life. More recently (20-ish years ago )I developed a liking for torsion clocks. Then a week ago I took the plunge and bid...
