Yup! That's what I remember the sweep hand looking like. Thanks for the link.

Western Union Self Winding Clock Second/Sweep hand wanted

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of the lost second hand. Attached is a photo of the restored clock minus the second hand. It's a broadcast studio version about 19" in diameter.

    Selfwinding cleaning & repair

I have one of Ken's special synchronizers, disguised as a dry cell battery, in the SWCC clock he restored for me. At the top of the hour (:00) it sends a signal to the clock to set the hour hand at :00. It's the most accurate mechanical clock in the house.

Western Union Self Winding Clock Second/Sweep hand wanted

I was given a non-working broadcast SWCC clock by a friend. It was a mess inside. Looked like someone had tried to convert it to an A/C driven electric clock. Other than that, all the parts were there. Ken (Ken's Clock Clinic) did a complete and awesome restoration. Because we were moving...

Wm Gilbert Dove - Chimes gone wild

With help from forum members, I managed to get a Wm Gilbert Dove I inherited working again without too much effort - until I rewound it. That's when the chimes went wild. First, they started chiming a warp speed. After a few days, most have dropped to normal speed but I'm still hearing some...

Wm. L. Gilbert Dove Face repair/replace

Thanks for the tip. Which way to wind? Clockwise? I noticed that I could turn the key either way and gears moved but I didn't see the spring tighten. Not something I want to ring anyway. Any recommendations on treating the wood? This clock had a lot of dust on it. I used a soft brush, a...

Wm. L. Gilbert Dove Face repair/replace

UPDATE - After a little amateur poking around, wiping down, dusting off and some itsy bitsy dabs of very light oil the clock has been ticking steadily for over an hour on my work bench. I even heard it chime a couple of times. After I removed the hands and face, the movement looked very clean...

Wm. L. Gilbert Dove Face repair/replace

Thanks Don! I was wrong about it working. I wound it up before posting my message. Clock only ran for about 30 minutes. Any "how to" on some light maintenance to get it running smoothly? Fred

Wm. L. Gilbert Dove Face repair/replace

Thanks Bruce. I'll heed your advice. Looking at the dust on the wood, I suspect the clock has been sitting in somewhere unused for a very long time. The movement is ticking away right now. What suggestions do you have for sprucing up the case? Am I correct about when it may have been made...

Wm. L. Gilbert Dove Face repair/replace

Newbie questions... I was recently given my deceased brother-in-law's Wm. L. Gilbert Dove clock. Photos attached. It needs to be cleaned up and the face replaced. Any source for parts? Also attached is a picture of the back label. Per another website I checked, this was the style label the...

    SWCC Model Help

Thanks Tim. I received a reply from Ken with a wiring diagram. He said those motors draw 2 amps when they kick in. Not sure a couple of D cells will do the trick. We'll see. Fred
