Thank you all for your thoughts. I agree that it is probably a prototype for the reasons given above.
I have further thoughts to back up that idea. Firstly, why would a production model have a combination of screw terminal connectors and edge connector? The edge connector is used where a repair...
Sorry, I should have posted some pictures of the complete clock.
I've temporarily put it back together so here's more pictures.
The brand label indicates it is a Simplex clock and the other label shows it as a model 946-2.
Quite a pleasant 80's design looking at it, but as we say in England...
Good evening folks,
I recently obtained a Simplex master clock "type 946-2 Op" from a local auction house here in the UK.
Externally, it seemed to be of good quality, but upon closer inspection I was disappointed.
The internal movement was a cheap, quartz type with plastic gears as fitted to...
I've found that the type of battery can affect the time keeping by diverting some of the magnetic field.
Original zinc batteries had no metal case but those dreadful Duracell types have a steel case which can cause problems.
I have found the type that take a 'C' size cell are worse affected and...
Evening folks,
Does anyone have a copy of the electronic circuit for a Gents Chronopher II master clock please?
It's the control board I'm after, but both boards would be useful.
Many thanks if someone can help.
Hi folks,
I have collected several of these master clocks over the years, but wondered if they were ever exported to other countries?
The Chronopher slave clocks are rarely offered in auction over here in the UK.
There is a similar type bearing the Moser Baer name (made in Switzerland) and...
Sorry for the late reply....
I removed the pair of 'butterflys' from between the plates, then the pallet assembly.
I then loosened the pair of bottom plate nuts 1 turn and the top plates nuts 3-4 turns.
This allowed me to prise the plates far enough apart to release the escapement wheel whilst...
Thanks again guys.
I will check the EW first as I can extract that without losing the rest nas swap it over with that from the other movement.
I will also use the pallet from other movent in case they have 'worn together' over the years.
I'm off to the continent for a week (the wonder of the UK...
I spoke too soon and now it's stopped again. Tried restarting it and it runs for a few minutes, then stops.
I adjusted the movement for an even tick, but there is a spot where the tick get fainter as though it is going to stop, then it reocvers and gets louder again.
The change in sound level...
I had an idea andtried it last night.
The Time (T) and Strike (S) barrels look identical so I removed the Strike barrel and fitted it to the centre position of the movement asthe Time barrel.
The clock ran all night and all today with the pendulum attached. The tick and tock seem louder now...
Many thanks shutterbug.
I've noticed that when it does stop, it's usually about 5 minutes to the hour when the longer peg on the centre wheel tries to release the chimes pre-strike acouple of minutes to the hour. The tick seems to get fainter and louder too, but I can't feel any tight spots or...
Afternoon everyone.
The spring length is roughly 1600mm (I measured 1500mm, but guessed the length the innermost 2-3 turns and added that on).
The arbour diameter is exactly 10mm.
The spring is not rusty and feels polished to the touch.
The inside of the barrel seems fine too.
Thanks.
Thanks guys.
The clock was completely stripped, cleaned and pivots polished. There was no obvious scoring and no oval holes in the plates.
The holes in the plates were cleaned with pith wood until no more dirt came out.
I did not remove the centre wheel due to difficulties in the past. There...
Greetings folks from the UK.
Some advice would be much appreciated, please.
I'm in the process of overhauling a 1940s Garrard Westminster clock.
The mainspring for time (centre barrel) has become weak and the clock stops after 4-5 days.
I have stripped it down to it's basic components and...
