Is it ok to write repair dates on a clock case

If I were granted the honor of a restoration commission from the British Museum on ANY piece, I would SURELY contribute my service mark (and modern, printed maintenance record) to the piece, in the style previously established. I, too, feel the reverence for historical pieces; but as has been...

This is being offered for sale locally for $155. Not being a "watch guy" (until maybe now), I only know what's in the pictures, the Word document, and: Crystal is missing S/N places it in the 1892-1893 timeframe Case is Illinois Watch Case Co., gold-plated, S/N places it in or after 1893 It is...

Basically, I have all of t he visible exterior clock components - but at some point, someone converted this piece to a battery-powered movement. Any leads on a replacement movement would be appreciated! Attached is the best photo I can find, from the web. Thanks to all; Chilly

Fun Find - Swartchild & Co. Storage Unit

The wife and I were out cruising small antique shops, and came across this. I balked at first, but then the wife INSISTED that I buy it. :) Lucky guy, huh? Anyway, I only see one item like it in eBay history, I don't know the asking price, etc... but the eBay listing says, ca.1899. Well, maybe...

Clock Help Wanted: 8-Day Steeple Clock Dial

Here's what I've got figured out - see the attachment. You should be able to print it out for reference. For other face shapes, I've seen people refer to the distance between arbors, which are easy enough to measure. There's no standard set of measurements, as far as I can tell. Funny thing...

Thanks, JTD. Yes - I agree on all counts! Not to boast or anything, I could produce better carvings myself.

Anyone recognize this English Pub clock?

Thanks to all of you for the rich information! You are all such fantastic resources. As to the price, $265 “as-is” seems steep in today’s market… but I’m no expert!

Anyone recognize this English Pub clock?

Ran across this for sale today… I like the looks of it, but some of its features make me somewhat wary. Sadly, the shop was not capable of providing in-depth discussions due to staffing problems (COVID-related). FYI - the seller's shop is an absolute heaven of beautiful items recovered from...

Perplexed! Clock runs fine, hands won't move (sometimes) It's a Fusee clock

Also - check for interference between the hands. I've seen minute hands that would get hung up on the hour hand... and not always when you'd expect it to. If there's potential friction between the hands at the arbor, consider polishing/oiling those points of contact. Good luck, and Cheers! Chilly
