Default Patek Movement ?

A friend of mine has a Patek repeater which is signed in 2 places. The dial is signed as well as the case, but the movement is not signed. Can anybody confirm or not.

Hi Harold,

the fact is, that Patek Philippe, Vacheron & Constantin and other European high grade pocket watch manufacturers such as Lange of Glashütte did not signed their movements on the visible side until the late 1890s. Though in most cases there is at least a company mark under the dial. The watches were signed on the dials and dust covers.

As I have seen a virtually identical movement in a genuine Patek Philippe repeater I am of the opinion that Your friend’s watch was also made by Patek.

The raw movement of the watch was possibly supplied by LeCoultre even though some of the cocks and bridges differ from the LeCoultre Calibre 41 standard design.

Best regards

Jan

I think you can safely say that this is in fact a Patek Philippe.

For about 80 dollars, you can write Patek and they will confirm this.

It looks like a winner to me.

good luck! Jeff Hess

Thank you for the information. It is a minute repeater by the way.
