I'm sure this info has been posted here before but if anyone can post it again I would appreciate it...I need the links to the internet databases for production numbers for American PWs...not just the mvt. serial numbers and the date of production (I have those) but the number of mvts produced for each serial # (number of runs, etc.)...I need to know how many of each were produced. Elgin is the only database I've accessed that had ALL that info...I need those of Hamilton, Illinois, Howard, Rockford and South Bend...thanks!

Dennis:
The first three below will give you the information you seek, but you'll need the serial number of an example to bring up the rest of the data. Reference books are also listed. For Howard and Illinois, such information as is available is noted below. Hamilton “Hamilton Hand-Written Serial Numbers No. 1 To 824,700, by Col. George E. Townsend,” by Roy Ehrhardt, Heart of America Press, Kansas City, MO, 2000 (May still be in print). Rockford "Rockford Watch Company Grade and Serial Numbers with Production Figures," Roy Ehrhardt, Heart of America Press, Kansas City, MO, 1976 (This may still be in print). South Bend “The South Bend Watch Co. - South Bend, Indiana - A Complete Listing of Serial / Grade Numbers from Beginning to End," Lyle & Donna Stratton, Longmont, CO, 1999. Serial number data for E. Howard & Co. watches is available on Dave Chaplain's E. Howard Records Website. “E. Howard & Co. Watches 1858-1903”, George E. Townsend, Heart of America Press, Kansas City, MO, 1985 (may be still in print). Information about Illinois watches may be found in "American Pocket Watches Vol. 2, Illinois Watch Co., Encyclopedia and Price Guide," William Meggers, Jr. & Roy Ehrhardt, Heart of America Press, Kansas City, MO, 1985 (may be still in print), and in Russell W Snyder's Illinois Data Base CD, which may be obtained by an email to Jon Hanson at jonontime@aol.com Good luck,

I decided not to put online these seperate sorts of grade production because of the time involved to perform maintenace of the separate files.
After all this work, it would merely be just another data point reference. In the case of Hampdens, The data is changing dynamically on a daily basis, due to new observations. The intended use of the databases is too provide information on "the watch in hand" characteristics (thus the serial numbers input). Errors, Reasons or Discussions are best left to the Collecting Specialists with the experience to address the issues.

If you want summary information on Waltham models and grades, you can used the Model and Grade report at the nawcc-info web site. It allows you to put in wild cards for both the model and grade so you can see all grades in a particular model (or some of them) or all models for a particular grade (or some of them).
They are broken out by jewel count, hc/of, etc. so depending on what you want you may have to add up a dozen numbers.
