How about an informal ugly wrist watch contest subject to the rule that has to have good movement.

Most of the uber-expensive luxery watches made by the ritzy Swiss fabricators are ugly IMHO, they violate the KISS principle. Yet they fill the pages of all the watch magazines.

I have to agree with you Ron. Sometimes I just buy the magazine for the 3 or 4 pages they devote to a vintage watch article. If you use this Forum as an example 90 percent of the posts are about vintage watches and that is why I believe everyone on here likes it. There is always something new to learn about these old wristwatches. To use a quote from the great Will Rogers, I've never seen a vintage wristwatch I didn't like. lol

90% of the comments here might be about vintage watches because you have to be a professional baseball player (I saw a former All-Star catcher looking at Langes in a store a while back) to afford the high-end watches now.
Anyway, I don't like some of the U. Nardin watches and I think Pateks are not ugly, but dull.

Ugly---anything with diamonds or rhinestones on the face or bezel!

Well said, Larry! Stones belong in rings, not on watches. Now a tastefully done 1920s-1930s ladies art deco styled watch with a couple of diamonds and sapphires is just fine, but anything else, and especially on men's watches, screams poor taste!

Unless of course you are a drug dealer or professional gambler, then you "gotz to have 'da bling!"

Respectfully,
Fifty Fathoms

I tend agree that stone on watches are ugly and whoever decided diving watches need to be diamond encrusted sure was not filling my needs.

Still no posts. I also propose a new caveat assuming Mr Hess approves. Lets keep this safe by limiting the candidates to watches at least twenty years old.

I have a hectic morning but if I get a chance I will post my nomination.

I agree with Dr. Jon's 20 year old caveat. Surely the early '70s will provide a good candidate. I have a television dial Mido Multistar I am ashamed to post.
