It is ONE or THE OTHER of these, depending on which contains the largest number of granules. My money is on the first, since it uses actual sand. A possible contender, THIS ONE, is not even close, because (a) it only contains a puny 180,000 moving parts (not counting the car), and (b) it was not really a time-measurer, because (c) it could never be rotated.
