Hello,
My husband acquires wrist watches, pocket watches in the last few years since his father died and left him a conductors watch and a few others. It says Foreign Kern its numbered 235/282. It has cut class sides with a diagonal pattern not shown in picture and has initials carved together possibly PJF?. I guess this Kern torsion clock we found at a thrift store recently is a special find for our family. I think I am getting into horology now too. Should we take it to a clock repair shop first or try and start it ourselves? It is a beautiful clock. Is it numbered because of a limited edition? Were can we find more info on these clocks? We have been having some trouble learning about Kern and its clocks, how old is this clock? Does anyone have any information on it? |

First, WELCOME to the board and thanks for your questions. We love questions about clocks and YOU who ask 'em!
Let me please however move this to the "400 day" section forum as this is a common term for these. There it will get more exposure and replies from those knowledgable about them. WELCOME! |

Hi,Seamoss and verry wellcome to the Message Board itself and to the part dealing with 400-dayers.They are a bit special but fascinating when running. The firm Kern is the only one still existing and producing anniversaries on demand.Google for "Kern Jahresuhren" and see what a clock like Yours would cost today!Your clock is from the mid-fifties to sixties.Good quality clock! If You consider entering the hoby of clockmaking or if You´re just interested buy a copy of the "bible" of anniversaries:The 400 Day Clock Repair Guide by Charles Terwilliger and read, read, read till You understand. It´s best investment for(I believe)24 bucks You can do.If You don´t want to service that clock Yourself perhaps someone on this forum can recomend a repairer in Your region. The Kern firm also offers a full service, try to e-mail Mr.Kern,he´s verry friendly and helpfull. In any case:Keep that one and get it going!
Burkhard
