Is there any difference between the Ball-Waltham wheel and the regular Waltham model 1899 wheel? Certainly the Waltham wheel is an easy one to find.

I was kind of hoping someone would chime in on just that. I do not know if they are the same. If they are that would be great.

Maybe it's a bit OT, but I once said (or I think I did) that it would be great to compare the interchangability of Ball Waltham and regular Waltham movements' parts. Could make things easier in the future

I would say that all the parts are interchangeable except for some things like regular springs ,dial, hands, etc.

With Hamilton -Balls it is the same. The regulator whip spring and HS stud are his own.

Webb Ball wasn't going to start producing gears, jewels etc. when there was nothing wrong with the movements he was selling as Ball's, so he did what any entrepreneur would do and add the least amount of expense to make it his own creation.

FYI the 3rd wheel in a Waltham 16s 7j. model 1908 was the same as the 3rd wheel from my Ball-Waltham 17j model 1899. The Ball is running again. Thank you to anyone who looked for this wheel. I found it in a non working movement I bought to practice on.

I recently acquired a nice Bunn Special 23j 60 hour 10k yellow gold pocket watch. The works side of the watch is so pretty, I'd like to screw on a display back. Does anyone have one they'd part with or know where I could get one?

    Thanks,

Hairspring and Balance Wheel for 1883 Waltham wanted

Managed to snap the stud off the end of 1883 Hairspring. I'm not skilled enough to work a new spring and balance so looking for a "matched pair" for ease.

Ideally from the UK to save on postal costs

    Thanks in anticipation

Andy, You will need to supply the movement SN as there are two styles of balance wheels for the model 83--late and early. The early ones have tapered spokes and the late have straight spokes. The hairspring stud is a slightly larger diameter on the late balance.
