Default Seth Thomas no 2 regulator wall clock, identification help

    Hello.
I will post pictures as soon as I can, one of my children has my camera AGAIN,
I have just purchased this clock.

The case is Mahogany and 36.5 inches total length
    Single weight
The dial has damage, but livable.

Unlike everthing I can find on the web, the markings on the dial is just, ST (in script) in the diamond and in the circle, under this USA.
There appears to be a stencilled number on the back well faded but I think it is 3981B.
I know it is not much to go on without pictures, but hopefully I can post these soon.
    Any help would be great.

How do I get to the movement, the pendulum has been taken off and I am finding it difficult to put it back on.

    Many thanks Peter.

As you said, not much help without photos. Open the bezel (top glass over dial). To remove the dial first remove the hands. Then remove the seconds "bit" (hand) by grasping it near the hub and pulling straight out. There are usually 6 or more screws around the edge of the dial and a couple near the center which fasten to the wooden support underneath. That should be it.

If the cable was not secured it may be coiled around the winding arbor or otherwise balled up. You will have to carefully straighten it out and then hang the weight to keep tension on it.

Please post photos as soon as you can.

    Best,

    Richard T.

Hi Peter. If you are correct about the stamp on the back, your clock was made in 1893. Taking the dial off: start by removing the hands, then remove the screws around the dial. This will make putting the pendulum back on much easier.

From your description and from the stamp your indicated on the back, you have a #2 made with a Seth Thomas #61 movement. This movement is rectangle shaped as opposed to the trapazoid movements in the later #2's. If your dial is original to the clock and not repainted, it should be roman numeral. Hard to say much else without pictures.

I see a Seth Thomas # 2 made in March of 1898. Are there other questions here?

Looks like Fe. 1893. There was an earlier thread. I have merged them into one.
