movement caseing question

I want to change the movement in a watch,how do I go about finding a replacement?What do I need to know as fare as mesurment and size?Thanks-Robert

The easiest method is to replace the old movement with a new movement of the same calibre (and from the same manufacturer of course).

The easiest way to find out the movement calibre is to look for stamped marks under the balance wheel .. unfortunately not all manufacturers put there marks there and the traditional way to ID a movement is to remove the dial and compare the setting works against sketches.

Ok,thanks.After 154 views there is finally a respone.I knew the calibre had to be the same but I wasnt sure how to find it.Also I didnt know if there were any other factors involved.Thanks again.-Robert

Possibly it took so long for a response because the answer could be anything from "that's easy, there are 5 of them on Ebay right now" to "you'll never find another one". It all depends on the movement, and the case and dial. So, if you have a picture, or any information like maker and caliber, that would allow folks to answer.

Well .. that's harder.

You need to find a movement that is the correct diameter, the correct thickness (or thinner and add a movement holder/spacer ring), and has the stem at the right height from the dial. Having dial feet holes in the correct locations to match your dial would also be handy.
