    Default I'm going cuckoo

I enjoy working with cuckoo clocks, until now. I've had in for repair a Schatz 8 day cuckoo. Repairs made, it ran in the shop for a month without any problem. I made a special delivery to the owner. Placed it on the wall, set everything up properly and started the pendulum. Went back to my home shop. Next day received a call the clock was not working. Because of medical reasons I returned to look at the clock. Could not get it to work. Back to the shop with the cuckoo clock. Check everything out and it has run for another month. Yesterday I redelivered the clock. Back on the wall, started it running. Decided to stay awhile. It was in beat, but it stopped about 45 minutes later. Restarted, it keeps stopping within 5 minutes. Brought it back and it has been running in the shop since yesterday. I don't know if the clock likes me, the house is haunted or I'm missing something. Open for ideas before I go cuckooooooo.

Ed, check that the cuckoo is flush to his wall, and that the wall is reasonably plumb. If he has a long enough screw that the top of the case leans forward, this will stop the clock, if the pendulum or leader is rubbing on anything in the case when it's out of plumb.

    Hi
As well as any angle of the mounting, check for
drafts. Even a small amount of air flow from a heater
vent can stop an 8 day clock.

Also check to see if it stops during the strike. Could be the pendulum is hitting the lift wires if it's leaning a bit back further than your test stand.

    Yes ...

And most 8-day cuckoos are allergic to ceiling fans, even if they are 10 feet away.

Thanks guys, I'll have to check the heat and air flow when I take it back. I'm pretty sure the lift wires are ok. I'll let you know. Thanks for your input and ideas.
