Default Question - "railroad" approved watches?

Were there "approved" wrist watches for railroad use after pocket watches became "old" technology?? I saw an Accutron for sale that stated it was "railroad approved" - Arabic numbers, big hands, etc. Did the companies that made RR pocket watches (Waltham, Elgin and Hamilton) make wrist watches to replace the pocket watch orders? I have seen a Raymond (Elgin) wrist watch for sale and same with Ball that looked like they satisfy the RR requirements.

    Thanks JeffL

    Hi JeffL,

This same topic was discussed at length about a week ago on this message board, but under the "American Pocket Watches" heading. The thread titled "Did the railroads ever approve wrist watches" was started by Dan O'Connell on 10-22-10. Since I don't know how to post "links" I'll go over there right now and bump it back to the top. It won't stay at the top for long, but at least it will be on the first page for a while. I guess it was decided that railroad wrist watches were "honorary pocket watches" because the thread was left under American Pocket Watches! That may be why you missed it.

Thanks, Barb, for the link. The only links I'm conversant with at present are the sausage variety. The next time brother Jerry comes over, I'll have him go over the procedure with me. When it comes to computers, this old dog is resistant to learning new tricks.
