If it is Chinese why is the writing English? Made for export I assume?

Chefoo China, currently Yantai, was called the Brighton of China and was a waterfront attraction. US Navy ships were moored there in the late 1930's. That and a British presence as well provided a market for products with labels in English. Export was more than likely another market.

Looks much better than the one that came in for repair yesterday. Says, "Kessel tm" and "31 day" on the dial, Chefoo on the movement. Vienna regulator style pressed sawdust case. Recent vintage.
