Ball, 2 Hamiltons, and a Hampden
I'm always amazed what my friends at work come up with when I start talking about watches. One of my counterparts mentioned having a few pocket watches she knew nothing about (her grandfathers watches). This last Friday, she brought in these 4 beauties. Although I have to return them on Monday, it was nice to have a look at them and learn a little about each. Thought I would share some pics.
Ball (I think a 999). Serial #B613923. 21j 5adj.

Hamilton (992) Serial # 1726644. 21j 5adj.

Hamilton Railway Special (992B) Serial # C301851 21j 6adj.

Hampden 23j railway special. Serial # 1333259

Very nice little collection to just have sitting at home. It makes you realize how many of these watches we look so hard for are out there just sitting in drawers with owners who don't know what they have.

Nice collection, thanks for sharing.
It appears a case screw was loose on the 992B at some point.
The 992B (appears) to be correct for the serial, Melamine dial, no shoulder No. 11. and hands.

Very nice!
Is it an optical illusion or is a piece of the Hampden's balance missing?
Is the 992 marked "Made In U.S.A." around one of the winding wheels?Kent

Kent,
I'll need to go back and see if I can find a better photo of the 992. All 4 were returned to her yesterday, so I may not be able to get a second look at the markings.
Gave her a very amateur write up of each watch and they will now be saved and passed down through her family. Seems they have become a topic of conversation with her husband and son. Really nice to see others interested and excited.

Re: Ball, 2 Hamiltons, and a Hampden
It's fairly common and not at all surprising. From the serial number I knew to look for it and seeing a blurred something in the correct location for the "Made In U.S.A." marking, I knew to ask if that's what it was. Nevertheless, some of us keep track of such things, trying to find a pattern of occurance, or at the least, a rough percentage of how many 992 movements ended up being marked that way.
